Technical | How To / plug chop, advice on reading.
« on: May 27, 2012, 02:18:26 PM »
Been having bother getting a type K&N filter to work on my Agility 50. Was on 82 main with my stock airbox and ran great, swapped out to an open filter but just cant get the jetting right so i will run as good, or as i hoped better.

So far i tried

88, wouldnt run well at all, too lean.
94, still seemed a little lean.
100, ran ok but not as good as stock, seemed little rich?
96, i got the result below which i think is pretty close but still off im sure cos it still runs better on my stock filter and 82 jet .
A little rich i thought?

I am still not great at reading plug chops so if anyone who knows better than me can advise that'd be great.

Had read that when the ring is higher up the insulator its too rich? Should be at the very bottom of it? Not sure if this is right or not tho?
Also not sure why its not a complete brown ring all the way round the insulator?

Its frustrating tryiny to dial this in and get a little better performance, cant even get the same performance as stock yet  :(

Beginning to think my little A50 just doesnt like free-flow filters at all no matter what jet i try ???

For months now my belts have been wearing down way too quickly, usually breaking up on the suface or fraying at the inside edge. Its totally baffled me, ive been thro everything trying to narrow down the problem and thought at least twice that i had it licked, last diagnosis was my electric start bendix had been hittin the belt at top speed so i removed that. Didnt work tho, new belts still wore down ???

FINALLY now i think i solved it for good. I restrippped the rear pulley, clutch, torque drive again and gave it a good looking over and clean up. Noticed something i hadnt before, a couple of deep scratches on the inside rear pulley face, Eureka!! Thats been wearing down my belt as it slides up and down the pulley i bet? The scratches were rough to the touch so would def not be good for my belt as it rides up and down over it!

Sanded it all down smooth with a sander and refitted again, waiting on a new belt arriving so will see how it goes now. Hoping its finally fixed it cos im sick of buying belts every month :(

Point i learned from this? NEVER use a large screwdriver or any other object to wedge open the rear pulley when fitting on a new belt ::) Thats what did mine, taking short-cuts with screwdrivers cos i didnt want to take of the variator since i was in a rush.

Agility 50 / Panic stations then, PHEW! that was close!

Phew, thought i'd bust something earlier, turns out im just stupid :)

Decided to shave down my boss length 1.2mm to 36.8mm long instead if the stock 38mm after reading Wordslingers post the other week with his new A50 he had. Saw he had shaved down the boss and sounded a good idea so i took one of mine into work today and lathed it down in the machine shop.

Put it all back together and went for a test run to see how it felt. Got onto the street and started going along, passed a neighbour who was gardening, heard his strimmer going and gave him a wave as i passed. Then i realised the strimmer noise was following me! In fact he had no strimmer, it was my scoot!!!! Pulled in and switched it off then pushed it the 200yds back home to check it.

Had visions of snapped belt bits all over the cvt or a cracked variator or worse. Turned out to be a loose variator nut, i had forgotten i had now shortened the boss so i needed a washer in behind the nut. When i had torqued it up it obviously had torqued onto the end of the thread, leaving a small mm gap ::)

Anyway i put in a washer to space it properly, retorqued and went back out.

Wow!!! This bitch is gonna "fly"

STILL waiting on my parts from SIP in Germany arriving, 7 days now, got a new belt and 5.1g rollers coming along with a few other things i needed. My belt i got in now is on its limit, 16.5mm, so my topend had been down to 70kmh. Now with same belt im back up to 77-78kmh :)

Expect with my new 17.7mm belt in the top end will hit 50+ again ;)

Felt a little tiny bit sluggish with the shorter boss, due to it starting in a slightly lower gear now but the 5.1g rollers will soon fix that. Going to try it with the belt and rollers 1st, leaving in my 1000rpm torque, then i can try the 1500 spring if i feel i need it.

Cant wait to ride to work tomorrow now, my A50 is getting back to being fun again :)

This weekends plans, if SIP finally deliver, new belt, new 5.1g rollers, then finally dial in my open filter/jetting correctly and im all set :)

Agility 50 / Torque driver

Anyone tried this or one similair?

http://www.exportstrength.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_44_332&products_id=639

Says it can be set for race or fast street, i can see it has 2 sets of guides, both different shapes, what difference would each make?

I was thinking the race setting will keep the high gear on longer to help acceleration from a standing start from looking at the shape of the slot?

General Discussion / Anyone bought from this site or one like it?
« on: May 21, 2012, 08:43:26 PM »
Was looking online earlier today for a few bits and pieces for my Agility 50 and i stumbled onto this site
http://growsunmotor.ecrater.co.uk/c/135096417/gy6-50-125-150cc-performance-parts wondered if anyone had heard of them?

The prices seems WAY cheap, full clutch ass including the complete rear pulley for £8/£9 inc delivery to the UK from China? These sell for between £35-£50 here on ebay etc so £9 seems unrealistic  :-\

Guess it must be cheap clones or rip-off parts? Any thoughts?

Clutch - £8?  http://growsunmotor.ecrater.co.uk/p/13629139/gy6-50cc-clutch-assy
CDI - £0.85? http://growsunmotor.ecrater.co.uk/p/13629101/gy6-50cc-cdi

Agility 50 / stripped my clutch bell nut today
« on: May 06, 2012, 10:19:17 PM »
Working on my scoot earlier, had stripped down the whole cvt etc and cleaned it all up, put it all back, just had to tighten up the clutch nut but when i went to fit it i saw it had stripped inside the nut thread, shaft is fine, guess the nuts made of softer metal to prevent damage to the shaft by striping 1st.

Anyway i need a new nut asap, does anyone know off had what size i need? Its M10 but a tighter thread than the m10 nut i had in my garage,do you think i could pick on up temp from a hardware store that would work till i can order a new proper one?

Cant even take the old one to compare threADS COS ITS SO STRIPPED OUT,(whoops caps) dont think the store would be happy if i dragged my scoot in to try some on it either  :D

So anyone know what im looking for M10 what?

37
Anyone know if the agility 50 electric start bendix/throw out gear is supposed to have a bush or washer on the end of it where it goes into the outer half of the cvt casing?

Is this the part if i do need one? http://www.chinesemotorcyclepartsonline.co.uk/partno_30421_1782.php

I dont ever remember mine having one but im sure i read somewhere on here that it was meant to have one there? Anyone confirm this?

Thanks.

Agility 50 / 2 belts in 2 weeks isnt normal at all.
« on: May 02, 2012, 06:57:28 PM »
Been having a problem thats come and gone at times but now ive gone thro 2 new belts in 2 weeks! This is driving me nuts now.

Replaced my old bando stock belt after about 12,000km's when it looked to be getting worn down. Scoot had begun to develop an issue going downhill at WOT, would go along fine till i hit around 40-42mph then it bogged a bit and stopped accelerating for a sec, then pick up again and speed up to 45-48mph. Was the exact same feeling you get going downhill on a restricted scoot where it hits 30mph then feels like its being held back only mine does it at 40-42mph, then it "free's" up and lets it go faster again ??? This happens for a few weeks or a month or so then it wont go past the restricted feeling at 40-42mph, at this point when i check my belt its normally fraying on tbe inside top edge (inner variator side). Last 5-6 months ive gone thro about 4-5 belts!

Once i swap the belt out the issue goes away for a while and i have no restriction at all, it goes smooth all the way to 45-48mph, then it gradually returns over the next few weeks or months, begining like i said by feeling slightly restricting it at 40-42mph, then not going past 42mph/70kmh, then i know my belt will be frayed and begining to go again ???

I was on a 1500rpm torque so last weekend i put that down to a 1000rpm to see if that helped any and put in a new belt, stock size. Went for a few days then i felt the dreaded thing began again. Just checked my belt and its begining to fray already, 3 days old, less than 60km on it :'(

It must be my variator, my boss, or my rear pulley, cant be anything else can it?

Just refitted my old stock variator, and tried that but its still got that restriction feeling at 40-42mph, so im guessing its prob not the variator. Not sure where to go next?

I dont have any new belts left so i had to fit my old stock bando i keep for emergencies but i need to order a new belt tonight, going Bando this time. 9

My idea is its either in need of a new boss, new variator or rear pulley? Either that or its just down to cheap belts? Still i wouldve expected longer than 2-3 days on even the cheapest, nastiest belts? The longest ive gone has been on my Malossi kevlar which lasted a good few months, all rubber belts i tried have lasted weeks at best. I cant keep buying belts, my old bando did 12,000km for f..ks sake so why are all other belts coming apart so quickly?

Dont want to fit a new bando only for it to fray apart but unless i can find another problem i will need to try it cos my old belt im running on temp just now wont last long so i need to swap it this weekend.

HELP!!!!!!!!  :D

Agility 50 / whats this spare rubber seal thing under my seat for?

Anyone know what this is? I hadnt ever noticed it before today?

Thought i'd make up a simple all-in-one guide for de-restricting the Agility 50 since its a question that never dies off, ever.(there is a search bar on this forum you know? ). I've tried to make this as clear as possible for everyone to follow easily since many reading it will be Newbies, so bear with me if your an oldie.

Ok, so to derestrict it fully you want to swap the restricted boss for a smooth one, fit an #82 main carb jet and also cut the
rev limiter on the cdi if its the same as the one in the photo below, or you can buy a derestricted cdi if you dont fancy cutting
 into your own.

To derestrict you will need,
A 38mm smooth variator boss,
An #82 main carb jet(5mm/M5 thread), my 2008 Agility uses keihin Jets(i assume all agility's are the same but cant verify this)
Thats it. Honest thats all you need, apart from tools.

Here we go,

1 - CDI Rev Limiter -
Either get a hacksaw or a file and cut into the bottom edge of the cdi, I was worried doing mine cos I was cutting deeper and deeper
into the cdi and saw no wire, ended up getting a big flat file and did it lie the photo below which was easier to see where the wire was
(thanks Wordslinger).I was about to stop and give up just when I had one last file and found the thin wire.
The photo of the cut cdi here,my wire was in the bottom right of the cdi as you see it in the photo, just where the small groove is

2 - Smooth Boss -

Heres a comparison of the restricted and a smooth boss,

Just follow the pictures here to see how to swap it out, its a lot easier if you have an impact wrench to remove the variator nut,
http://www.scootertherapy.com/bosspage.html

3 - New bigger main jet -

This 2-part vid shows pretty much how to do it, tho its not exactly the same engine or carb, its close
enough to understad how to do it. The main differences are that your carb prob only has 3 screws underneath whereas the one
in the vid has 4,and you dont need to remove the fuel lines or any other hoses other than the 1st 2x big hoses he disconnects
at the start ( the intake hose that feeds air into the carb from the airbox, and the manifold that feeds air/fuel mix into
the engine). Once you disconnect the intake and manifold you can lift the carb free enough to slide an old rag under to catch
the fuel that will leak out, and then flip it over to get to the screws below.

Here's the vids - Part 1 -

Part 2 -

And no,thats not me in the video (thank F**k)

The above gave me a top speed of about 43mph on the speedo I think.

Further mods to think about later -

I fitted a race variator and lighter 5.5g rollers but you may not want to bother with this right now, up to you. There are a few
makes of variators and also many cheaper chinese clones at different prices, Pollini, Malossi etc, suppose you get what you pay for.
The Malossi And Pollini race variators come in a kit with a de-restricted smooth boss, the variator and a torque/contra sping(usually 1000rpm).
This gives smoother and improved acceleration with no flat spots like i had on my stock variator and i got some more top speed too.

After this I now get about 45-48mph, weather permitting, on the flat most days (on the speedo, prob only 43-44mph actual since speedos
 are generous).

For rollers you want 16x13 ?g rollers (? being the weight you want).Stock weight is 6.5g so lighter will rev higher and may improve acceleration
but can lose 1-2 mph top end, heavier will slow acceleration but may give you 1-2mph more top end. Try 1g heavier or lighter and take it from there.

Changing the torque/contra spring in the rear pulley to a 1000rpm or 1500rpm will improve uphill speed and acceleration. I found the 1500rpm spring
works well for my set-up but i ran a 1000rpm for a while 1st and even that was an improvement on stock ( stock is around 850rpm i think).
I used a variation on this method to remove my clutch assembly and get to the spring, tho i dont even use a vice i just use a big adjustable
 spanner instead.

I rarely drop under 30mph going uphills unless its a pretty steep hill, thanks to the 1500 torque/contra spring im running.

Finally the clutch fly springs can be swapped for stiffer ones,i use 1500rpm at the moment. This should let the revs build higher before the clutch engages
which should in theory give you better take off speed from stopped. Personally i didnt really feel that much improvement at the time when i did mine, but
i dare say if i went back to stock springsi may notice it more now.

Here's a vid showing how you can swap them out, WARNING it can be a pain in the holle trying to fit them back on so be patient,
especially with 1500rpm or 2000rpm springs.

Hope this helps out any newbies or anyone else who is just beginning to thin of tuning or de-restricting their A50. Good luck.

Man i got too much time on my hands..........  ::)

Got stopped on my way home from work last night for nipping into the bus lane to get past some stationary traffic in a queue. 2 cops had just passed me going in the opposite direction on police scooters so they obviously took a liking to my little Kymco and wanted a betrer look at it  ::) They mustve U turned as soon as they passed me and been following me from a distance. Soon as i cut back into the traffic queue i got the blue lights come on behind me and turned to see a copper on a scoot sat beside me  :o "Just pull over round the corner will you" , " Yes officer, no problem" lol.

They checked out all my details and saw i was 100% legal etc, gave me some sensible advice, then we had a general chat about riding and scooters before they told me to ride safe and enjoy myself "but keep out the bus lanes" . I honestly assumed i would get a ticket but i didnt, they were genuinely nice guys and i feel the way they dealt with me was great. I honestly will not drive in THAT buslane again and will head their advice. Had they come on all petty and been a pair of dicks about it then i wouldve had no respect for them or their words and would prob ignore anything they said, as it was i will respect their advice and take it on board.

Shame a few other cops dont take on this kind of policing method, it could work wonders. So to conclude, all cops are not evil sons of satan, some are normal human beings just like us.

Agility 50 / 50mph club?
« on: March 27, 2012, 09:44:07 PM »
Why dont we set up a 50mph+ A50 thread?

Anybody interested?

Let us speed demons (  ::) ) show what we gotten out our little 50cc's.

If we make a rule that only photographic or video proof gains entry we can be sure all claimers are genuineand have a record of topspeeds to look back on in years to come with the grandkids?

I was on 51-52 but im in the middle of tuning business right now so am down to 48 but plan to be back up over 50 by next week hopefuly. I now there are a few other 50mph+ A50's out there so why dont we get some videos all in the one thread and show off a bit  8) .

If anyone fancies it post up a vid, i'll get mine on soon as im fine tuned by the weekend with luck.

We can even get little 50+ Club stickers for our scoots lol  8)

Get posting.

Was looking up some stuff earlier and saw this page http://www.towingdelivery.co.uk/ScooterManual/TuningOverview.aspx

Just wondered if anyone has looked in their carb to check for this restriction? It may not apply to Kymco's or A50's? http://www.towingdelivery.co.uk/ScooterManual/CarbDeRestriction.aspx

Technical | How To / Tuning Your 50cc 4 Stroke GY6, QMB139
« on: March 26, 2012, 09:41:54 PM »
Was looking for some info on carb tuning earlier and i stumbled upon this site with some good basic info for beginers/newbies.

It covers roller weights, variator, clutch springs, carb jetting, etc and is specifically for 50cc 4 Stroke GY6 QMB139 engines such as on the Agility50, but some of it is useful for all 50cc restricted scooters. Some good basic info and pointers for those who arej ust starting to think of tuning or de-restricting. Not all points are general and Kymco models vary slightly for some precedures , but generallly its pretty informative for those learning the basics.
