Had a bad accident
« on: July 04, 2016, 03:44:06 PM »
As I type this, I am in icu in a hospital in Panama City Florida. Compound fracture on left leg. In pain[emoji26][emoji24][emoji16], but very much alive. Thankfully I was wearing my helmet and Riding jacket. So the damage was confined to the leg. Better to worry about the outcome on a leg than a head or chest injury. . Keep me in your prayers [emoji1488][emoji1488][emoji1488]

Glad to hear you’re okay and getting help. After any crash, if you can think, talk, and even write (type) you’re in good shape (relatively). I’m curious about the details, but rest and take it easy for now.

So sorry to hear, Forbes. You got it on the prayers. I just don't wanna hear you suited up and then fell off the ladder 'cause your garage door opener malfunctioned! Rest easy and mend. Let us know what happened later if you feel like it.

I know, a broken leg is no fun. I`ve had my left foot broke twice.
Will pray you have a speedy and complete recovery.
When you get to feeling better, give us the details.

Forbes, so sorry to hear. Hope you have a speedy recovery. I would usually say something, to lighten the mood, but accidents are no laughing matter. Glad that you are alive!!!! Feel better soon.

Pure carelessness. I was riding a night on a somewhat unfamiliar road. Looked away for a second. The road curved right. I kept straight. Ended up hitting the raised center median at 45-50mph. Before I knew it , the scooter ended up back in the road. And I ended up in the median. Left foot dangling and bone sticking through. THREE cars passed by without so much as asking if I needed help. One lady made eye contact and kept going. The others had to go around the still lighted scooter laying down in the road. Thankfully, I had the presence of mind to crawl to my scooter (in the road)  and get the phone out of the front storage compartment and call 911. Then someone finally stopped and was able to give better instructions as to my location. Some bone is missing. But circulation is getting better. Getting ready to get taken to a hospital at home. As long as circulation is good, they will be able to reconstruct bone after several future surgeries. Again, thankful for the helmet and Jacket. No significant damage to anything but the left leg. Your continued prayers are appreciated.

Forbes...
I really appreciate that you gave us your scooter accident report!
Your information is now stored in our scooter riding heads....and if we pay attention to it - will make us all better,  safer riders.
There but for the grace of God....etc.
Extra caution needed:
1) night riding
2) unfamiliar road
=↓↓↓s p e e d
We, and you, know this.....but now a reminder to us all. Much appreciated@
Prayers for the best recovery.
Stig
PS...I keep my phone inner pocket of riding jacket......in case I'm so far out in the shrubbery over the cliff that it is too far to crawl back to scooter and the emergency Moon Pies! ....and cell phone.

Forbes, complete respect! Anyone who can crawl with your injuries is a badass. Sorry about the injury, though, and I hope the reconstruction surgeries are successful and will allow you to return to an upright life and more.

People are horrible, and fearful. Ours is such a litigious country that people are more afraid of lawsuits than helping one another. And yes, night riding, especially on unfamiliar roads, is dangerous. I’ve heard stories of worse accidents by over-confident, if not arrogant riders. You’ve earned your war-story and then some.

Heal well and quickly!

Always hate to hear about a Man Down situation.  Hope the pain stays manageable and the nurses get cuter!  Take care of yourself and good luck with the recovery.  Hopefully you are up and riding again soon.  Best wishes and prayers, Forbes
