I can't believe how well this thing goes. If the variator is changed, will I need to change the v belt as well ?

In the uk we use a fuel stabiliser and engine cleaner called redex. Is this available in the us?

You are welcome buddy, I've modified the wording slightly on my original post, just to make things clearer

If there was ever a reason to come and visit the uk from the us, And you are a fan of two wheeled sport, this is it !
Last year I met folks from Africa, the USA, Canada and Austrailia.
There is absolutely nothing to compare it to.
37.73 miles of public roads turned into a race track for two weeks of the year.
Speeds of over 200 miles per hour on the straights, inches from those viewing.

Certainly sounds like a short to ground. My schematic shows only the blinker, handlebar switch, 4 turn bulbs
and dash indicator in the circuit. Try putting a meter on the power somewhere and run the flashers. See if the
voltage is varying. Elsewise look around for some wires rubbing. My old bike had problems around the headset
and rear shock adjuster.

You might need to remove the flasher and all 4 bulbs and meter the wires to ground. Good luck!

It just occurred to me it might be a bad connection. Check the battery terminals and the 3 yellow wires
from the stator. The battery could be loose and causing low power available (blinkers use 40 watts!).
And stator wires are known to melt and corrode causing poor charging...
good advice here, sounds like a definite short. Have a look at your regulator rectifier connections too though. I'd also check the connection from battery to earth(frame) and engine earth to frame

If you are sure your cdi is ok, I'd be looking at coil connectors, (google coil primary and secondary winding resistances) once you've done this, if you haven't got a spark, the fault can only be on your plug or ht lead

Remove the side casing, you will need an assistant and a soft mallet. Have the assistant hold the casing whilst you jar the kickstart and tap the spigot with a soft mallet.

Once the spigot is out, clean up the teeth with a stiff brush and rake out the hole it sits in. Then lightly grease the teeth on the spigot.
Give the teeth on the kickstart half plate a clean and then lightly grease the teeth.

The spigot has a clip that fits around it into a groove, clean and grease this. If the clip cannot spin freely, the kickstart will jam.

Have your assistant pull the kickstart fully down then reinsert the spigot into its hole, ensure the clip sits over the short locating shaft( which is clean and lightly greased) then have your assistant slowly release the kickstart . As the kickstart tension is released, The spigot should spin on its clip whilst the clip simultaneously slides down it's short locating shaft. The height of the spigot will drop at the same time.

Now reassemble the side casing to the bike. Don't over tighten the casing bolts for christs sake.

It's a bit of a fiddly dick on, but now that everything is clean and lightly lubricated, it'll work fine

Take a small panel into a woman's make up shop, show it to the girl on the nail varnish counter, she will match the colour. Pour your charm out and you might get yourself a date too

A bike with no spark would not run at all.
This sounds like a cdi issue. Remove your panels and check the connections to your cdi, you've probably got water in one of them. Take em apart one at a time, blow them out with a hair dryer and once you've put them back together, waterproof them tightly with self amalgamating tape. If this is not the issue, then it will be a fuel or air intake issue, look for nipped pipes from or to the carburettor or nipped pipe to the air box, dirty or blocked air filter

United States of whatever.

I had a fault with my sender unit, or so I thought. Turns out that the float had become saturated, it sank in the fuel showing empty all the time. I got hold of a new float and using some telephone jumper wire, managed to attach the new float to the sender arm.

If yours is playing up, remove it, re connect and turn the ignition on, move the float with your hand and see if the gauge works, if it does its the float at fault.

« on: December 24, 2012, 08:30:42 AM »
Lighter rollers were fitted last night, weights to be confirmed but are around 7g, my son took the scoot out for a rip and told me that it now hits an indicated 57 mph on the flat.

I think it's safe to say we are now at the last few drops of speed on the budget modification list.

Race variators seem a bit steeply priced, I need some reassurance that another 5 mph is possible before buying one, the same for an aftermarket exhaust.

Total mods currently
Ecu green wire splice
Aftermarket drive belt replaced with original kymco bando belt £30 ouch
Front drive boss filed down to 34mm
Roller bearings 7 grammes each

Mods to do
Replace stock exhaust
Drill extra hole into the air box

Maybe mods to do
Fit a race variator
