replaced center pad and cheek pads in helmet

While I am waaay overdue for a new helmet (10 years old...) I thought I'd at least replace the worn out helmet pads with new ones for my Shoei R-1200.

I hadn't realized how much looser the helmet had become over the years. With the new pads it fits like it did when it was new (back in a previous decade..)

I also gave it a good cleaning on the exterior to remove the dead bugs, etc.  I probably should have also replaced the chin curtain as that is looking a little rough. Now I need the outside temps to lower a bit so I can get back on the bikes.

I got mine from Revzilla. I'm sure most any site that sells Shoei helmets will also sell the replacement pads? The Revzilla site did a good job with explaining the various options in pad thickness you can get as you are able to buy thicker or thinner replacement pads if desired.

Helmet smells a lot better, too!

I've got replacement pads for my Arai and Shoei helmets thru my local dealer, they are dealer for both brands, + HJC and maybe some others

I've both replaced or washed mine. Smells great in here now🙂
Recently read a fellow praising his old helmet for saving his head, twice!, in crashes.
There are opinions that helmets should be replaced after a certain number of riding years - open to some debate - but not much debate about the safety of replacing a helmet which has been struck in a crash - and after two??!!

Stig, It looks a lot darker in pictures. It is the light tint visor option. When looking directly at the helmet it appears so dark because you don't see any light behind it. Attached a pic with the visor raised so you can see through it and added one pic viewing through the visor.

I like it because it gives me some sun protection in the day and it's light enough to ride at dusk, if needed. If I think there's a chance I could be out after sundown I'll switch to my clear visor.
