DTX360 (320cc) Oil Change

My much delayed (589 miles!) oil change was finally done this morning after a few false starts!  A word of warning, the Philippines YouTube videos on the subject seem to show a different model to the UK one I have and the procedure is therefore different!

The good news for owners is that all this is possible without having to remove any plastics!  If it helps others, mine has both an oil filter (see second photo) accessed using a 24mm socket and an oil screen located just to the left of the 17mm oil drain plug.

I first of all ran the scooter for a couple of miles to warm her up and then removed the filter having first removed the filler plug:



Removing the filter revealed all to be in good order so this was replaced to await a change next time.



Then around to the lefthand side of the bike (as you'd sit on it) to locate the oil sump drain plug.  This is the RH one of the two bigger nuts visible, the one on the left is the oil screen filter.



Finally just to prove I did drain the oil!



After a while I replaced and tightened the sump plug (having first checked the crush washer was OK) and then replaced the oil.  The manual recommends 0.9L, but having drained my oil filter earlier I'd guess it was about 1.0L or a little over before my dipstick (inserted fully home) showed the correct oil level.

All in all the whole routine - even allowing for the YouTube puzzlement - took less than 45 minutes and I expect it to even quicker next time!

Don't worry too much about being overdue a K with oilchange. Liquid cooled motors and good syntetic oils are pretty forgiving on this matters.

The filter is more a thing to care about, 'coz you cannot judge its condition from outside. Could be partially clogged (whith this little mls not likely) or

Filter situation I'm relaxed about Ruffus as it was changed only 1,500 miles ago!  Next time it'll get the new one which is waiting on my garage shelf.

In 2013 when I bought my Chinese made Kymco LIKE200i there was some speculation that the Chinese may have been filling the engine with fish-squeezins! Or used wok oil. Saving the good stuff for their mobile missile carriers, or whatever!

I was encouraged by some here to get that oil out of there ASAP!
Being a long-time oil change man - I did just that.
I smelled the bowl of used oil .....remember Author Treachers Fish & Chips..??!!

Strangely enough I didn’t sniff the bowl…. Is it our imagination or does the engine always sound smoother & quieter after an oil change? 🤣

This is the correct procedure and the photos are helpful.

The engine is identical to the Downtown 350i but the 350i specifies 1.3L oil capacity. Unknown why Kymco made the change but the engine is not too fussy as long as you do regular oil changes and check levels regularly as I believe dilution with fuel is still an issue.

The oil drain bolt is 17mm and oil filter cap is 24mm for reference.

In what's becoming a bit of a theme for me, I finally managed to get around to changing the oil (interim change) this morning late at 1,175 miles this time.  Ah well.

On a more positive note, from start to finish the process took <15 minutes, with most of that waiting for the (warmed up) oil to drain.  Set up and then clean up afterwards added about another 15 minutes which I'm happy enough with.

There is something so satisfying about changing the oil on new vehicles.
(how can it go wrong? "Well, it was dark under there and I  removed a drain plug. Pulled the pan out and discovered it was full of Toyota transmission fluid.")

So that's the north sea out there.  Not the E. Channel ?
Ocean looks the color I recall when looking towards Hawaii standing along the pacific coast highway in California.  So your Ocean isn't always as grey and foreboding as seen in those U-boat movies?
Ummm, Neil - those flowers on the rail are not commemorating the decision of a very depressed person, are they?

My (admittedly a touch anal) approach is to change the oil every 1K miles or so with the filter getting changed every other time, i.e. 2K between filter changes.  It's complete overkill I know, but ATM that's the intention.

Yep Stig, it's the North Sea on one of the few occasions where it looks blue rather than grey! (Translation: Gray)

You ask the self same question I did on the flowers.  At that point its a drop straight down of about 150' onto the rocks....  So my guess is they could signify suicides, but Jo's more charitable interpretation was that they may be in memory of a loved ones favourite spot to enjoy the view?  You choose.

Whatever, near there is a dog-leg flight of steps to get down onto the beach where we saw the remains of a mobility scooter in the surf!  Hope its rider wasn't on board when it went over the edge.

Self-checking my items near the door at my grocers this morning - I turned at the beeping sound of a street maint. vehicle backing right behind me.
I turned - and there was a gent on a handsome blue and chrome 4 wheel mobility 'vehicle' - the size of a mini-cooper!
He parted us shoppers like a boat and went motoring down towards the meat counter.
He had to be pushing the approved limits of motor vehicles in a store!
Looking after his wake - I thought, "you know..... if your LIKE200i had a side-car.....your pup could select her own dog foods down isle 6!"
