...Far as other scoot mfr's go.  SYM has a nice line-up that the local dealer barely stocks (and with exception only the lighter stuff then..)

Piaggio is doing a pretty decent job.  Love the new liberty 'cept it's a step slower than my HD...for you lovers of the old People 150...go check it out, you'll adore it...
Our dealer has a good stock of all the SYM/Lance scooters, as well as Genuine Buddy and Stella. We are very fortunate to have such a good dealer around here.

Piaggio Liberty 150..... oooooohhh, me want! (OR Kymco could just do the smart thing and bring back the People 150!!) DANG, I miss that scoot!

I have heard from a few Kymco dealers that the Xciting 400i and the Xtown 300i will, in fact, be coming to the U.S.

I still have not seen any release info on these two scooters. The Spade and Like 150 show up as coming soon on kymcousa.com.  They have actually been released.
Maybe they are just trying to clear out old stock.

I do not understand these Kymco "managers."
Karl

Tell us how you really feel, Karl.  :-)

It would be very easy for the company to have some sort of presence on all forums Kymco, and a customer survey letter probably would hurt, either !
imo

I just visited my local dealer today and probably saw the very first Kymco X-town 300i in LA being put together. For some reason it looks a little smaller in person from what I imagined, I don't think the post stating it being air cooled is correct as it has a coolant reservoir tucked behind a panel in the front. I suspect maintenance on it will be a breeze much like the DT300 since it looks like the seat bucket removes the same exact way the DT300 does. However, the battery is now accessible behind a panel in the seat bucket and the LED light seems to have an optical sensor probably to remedy the issue of draining the battery when the seat isn't shut properly. Overall the scooter looks fantastic, my only gripe without having ridden it yet is the rated 23 horsepower.. this puts it closer to the 250cc category in terms of power.

Yep, I  found an 800 number in owner's manual and called Piaggio NYC....was put through to a fellow in the technical dept. who researched and answered my question about the proper valve gap for my new 2018 Liberty150i. The underseat label specs disagreed with the latest service manual.
Pretty cool to get that kind of access to a country's distributor technical dept!
Good customer experience --- there IS someone on the end of that 800#!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

My local dealer has the 300 Xtown in stock right next to a 2017 DT300.
Can you imagine the conversation....

Dealer -‘Yes They are both 300s but the leftover packs 7 more hp than the new 300 that’s why it’s 2000.00 more”

Buyer if he has any smarts says WTF.

All kymco did was devalue the used DT300.

But wait buyer sees the new 400.

Buyer-how’s that new 400?
Dealer-great puts out around 30 ponies.
Buyer- isn’t that the same as the old 300s?

Dealer-why yes it is, so if you want a 2018 with the same power as the leftover 300s you’ll need to buy the 400.......

Buyer- scratches head.

Welcome to Euro 4.

The U.S. doesn't drive the market in any way, shape or form.

Europe and Asia, where people buy & use bikes do.
They also drive the lighter car market for the same reason.  They buy more of 'em.

Really going a bit slower, using a bit less gas, & having cleaner emissions isn't a horrible thing, & it does unite the technology of cars & bikes more so upgrades on the former also benefit the later going forward in that regard.
As the generations of bikes move on I'm sure the power will return.  Either way not really much can be done for it.  Not buying bikes won't help, since they'll be even less choice.

I do note that the GT300I is still available in Europe last I checked, & didn't lose much oomph with it's Euro 4 changes.  Kinda sad it's not here, but that's our fault as much as anything.
If I hadn't stood pat on my B650 & HD200 that would have been one of a couple at the top of my list...Just couldn't quite pull the trigger ...maybe with an external gas filler..I really do hate the ones under the seat.

Euro 5 is due on 2020, so stock up in 2019.

Cheers

The US doesn't drive the scooter market, but the market's good enough in the US for Yamaha to bring in the XMax 300 which immediately drew my attention away from anything Kymco had in that size class simply because 2 wheel ABS is a non-negotiable feature in my next scooter. I can find new 500i ABS which have 2 wheel ABS but I'm having a hard time with the dealers I'd trade with seeing my ideas on devaluation just sitting in a create for a year or more...

Had a look at the new Xmax 300 yesterday, beautiful and looks very well made.
