dark, leaves, wet = !!
« on: October 25, 2015, 11:48:31 AM »
Sunrise is about 7:55. Overnight rains, our first in several weeks, trees in full fall splendor.
Climbing on the scooter at 6:00am for a trip to my coffee village, I'm thinking of several very tight, downhill turns on my route....and the caution I'll need to exercise.
Then I hit miles of newly "grooved pavement" which lead me to alter my route after 3 miles of that stuff. (Scooters don't like wet grooved dark pavement, or at least I don't)
Added several miles to my trip but it is a balmy 53°, so no worries.
I get away with this foolishness because I'm thinking ahead, and, importantly - not dealing with heavy traffic pushing from behind at this hour of the day.
Take it easy folks....the leaves are on the roads.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Last summer I went around a corner at low speed. I ran through some pine needles and my rear end slipped out on me. Did not loose control. I was just lucky my tire finally got traction.

Always a present problem here in the "City of Trees". I have to leave for work at 6:45 am, so it's always dark on my morning commute. Gotta watch out for those slippery little leaves on the streets.
Safe riding to you all!

Fine, light gravel on a dry road. I've found it to be equally as dangerous when coming to a stop. Not so much for the tires, but for your boots or shoes. I've had a few foot slips at stop signs and intersections where storm wash accumulates in the street, then dries into a layer of gravel powder.

I've learned to watch the surface of where I'm coming to a stop or parking, especially if I have to back my bike into a spot.

Stay safe everyone.
