General Discussion / Re: The !@#$%^&*^% weather!
« on: February 16, 2026, 08:41:17 PM »
The weather is doing my head in here in the UK. Never seem to get a dry day. I have handlebars to swap over and some accessories to strip/fit.

Managed a quick fix on the bicycle in the garage today but that's the most I've managed to get done for a while!

Hey!  "Enfield"?!  When did you pull the trigger on this one then?  Thoughts on it?  Do share - with pics if possible.

Oh and congratulations on the other soon to be happy event!

Thankyou!

A friend of mine gave up riding - bad back - so I bought his Meteor 350 off him in mid-December and rode it back from Southampton one Saturday. So I managed to add an additional 200 miles to my target in December!

Waiting for it to warm up to get rid of the Suzuki now. I've done a fair bit of decustomisation - removed sissy bars, engine shields, windscreen etc - getting it closer to the bare bones that I prefer. Still some way to go.

I'm very late on this one - but I hope you all had a great Christmas :)

Under 1000 this year on the 250, most of which were done in one trip down to the South. Baby on the way now and Mrs. Viper is likely to need the car more whilst she's on maternity leave next year, so likely to do a few more on the Enfield next year.

What beautiful autumn foliage. Jealous indeed

JJJ is bang on the money, the forum is hitting the buffers of it's allocation; database, bandwidth, whatever;
I think I've mentioned this in the past but I work in IT in server infrastructure - I'm not particularly experienced in PHP - if the current administrator wants to offload it and if I can afford to run it, I'd be open to taking it on as a running concern. Too many great phpbb forums have been lost from the internet, with the treasure trove of information contained within.

As you've alluded to, I think it's circumstantial. Me in my 20s persevered with whatever hunk of junk I was riding until the wheels pretty much fell off. Now in my mid-late 30s, I'd probably feel differently. That said, I don't rely on my bike for anything in particular, and the one I've had for 3 or so years now (Suzuki 250) has been the absolute pinnacle of reliability.

I suspect I'd change it in if it broke down more than twice in a month...

I used to use toothpaste on the headlights of my Yaris to get it through MOT once a year. It needs reapplying a few times a year. Not sure how it would work on a scooter screen!

I walk past a VW van most days (will do in the next hour with the dog) that's been hand painted orange from top to bottom - still going though, and somebody must love it I guess!

It's good to see you're still keeping up the morning routine and getting out there, and the Like is still going well. I thought about my Like this week for the first time in a good few years.

Nice to see an independent coffee place going strong, too.

Welcome back! I remember your posts from before; I'm glad to hear you're back on the road with an Agility :)

I've also had a dismal 2024. I changed job back in March so wasn't doing any commuting anymore past that, so the bike has become a toy now, and I'm not very good at making time for leisure pursuits.

Managed less than two thousand miles, and had done 90% of that by the middle of March!

I'm so sorry, you and your family are in my thoughts.

The symptoms you're describing sound like something I'd expect on a carb - but you've got fuel injection.

I'd suggest you might be getting fuel starvation. Has it been laid up for a while?

Clean the fuel filter if it has one for starters. Is the fuel old?

It was indeed around 0 degrees celcius and there were a few ice patches so there were a few skittery points, so I had to take care, but a lot of the road was pretty dry.

I think was using postimg.cc, which works really well. Unlikely my clumsy numberplate censoring!

I've had so much fun over the last 5 years with this ride in to the office. I'm going to have to actually start riding for fun from now on. It'll be a real change of philosophy!
