Bet & Win 250 / Re: Kymco bet and win 250 New carb?
« on: May 01, 2025, 04:34:31 AM »
usually a good cleaning is all most carbs need. Now you definitely need a new bystarter...if you really don't have a needle it means your scoot was always running 'enriched'..as the needle starts out retracted and expands to close a passage as it heats up, cutting off the additional fuel needed when cold.

You can buy generic carb by starters all day long...and I'm sure Kymco sells them. Complete disassembly and cleaning all passages with carb cleaner and compressed air and making sure jets (especially pilot) are clean, as well as cleaning the passage your air/fuel mixture screw goes in. You want to see carb cleaner come out of every little hole in the carb, ensuring it is clean.

I don't recall many needing to upjet their stock Kymco carbs...I'd start with a good cleaning and then if needed you can increase your jet sizes? Do you have an accelerator pump on your carb?

that was my first thought, too...that you pulled the entire main jet with emulsion tube out. The main jet will separate from that tube, per Ruffus's drawing.
Other than that they sure look like regular Keihin jets?

Ruffus, you may need to start your own Youtube channel to showcase your restoration and custom work on these beautiful bikes! I know I'd subscribe!

Welcome! I still miss my S200 that I sold almost 2 years ago. Not sure about increasing weight limit, don’t know if that is possible.

reached 1 hour of run time on the engine on the new mower today....time for an oil change. Keep in mind this mower is marketed (in the US, at least) as 'never needs an oil change, just check the level and top it off!'

Well....the gray, soupy, sparkly metallic mess that resembled gray paint more than engine oil, with 1 hour of run time on it, shows that you still need to change the oil. It takes a whopping 15 oz (426 ml) of oil.

I'm curious if small engine manufacturers in other parts of the world market their products as never having to change the oil? Or is this just aimed at the brilliant US consumer.. 8)

another scooter in the family! Does the scoot need fluids and filters? belt, tires, etc? When you 'borrow' it for a morning ride, be sure to post some pics!

JJ, that was not my experience with my S200 carb. The jets I removed were identical to the Keihin jets I replaced them with. It worked fine.

Here's a link to the site I used, Jets R Us. I haven't looked at the prices in a few years..WOW!!! Almost $20 USD for 1 pilot jet?? I recall buying them for around $6 USD?

General Discussion / Re: Wax question for ak550
« on: April 21, 2025, 12:38:01 PM »
my days of traditional 'waxing' ended a few years ago when I discovered the new hybrid ceramic spray waxes. I used to do hand applied (then moved to machine applied) traditional waxes...wax on, dry to haze, buff off...lots of time and labor... Now I exclusively use the hybrid ceramic spray waxes (Turtle wax, surprisingly, is one of the best...Griots Garage has a good one, too, but lots of others available).

I'll still prep the surface, initially, using a clay bar and then a polish, if needed, followed by an alcohol wipe down to remove all contaminants prior to spray wax application. 2 coats will bead water for a year on my cars.

I use it on my bikes, too. After the initial prep and application I just hit them with a detail spray after riding and they look like new.

Of course you can skip all the prep work and just wash and then use the ceramic spray wax...great results that way, too.

The only caveat is if your AK has the matte paint finish. That requires different care. What care that is? I don't know...I'm a glossy paint guy!

your location in the world will have a big impact on parts pricing and availability..where are you located?  Plus you may have more than just piston and cylinder damage from low oil. Crankshaft bearing may be shot.. Used motors are few and far between in the US but if you are in Europe you may have much better luck.

a lot of nice looking, expensive scoots! Wonder which global market buys the most of these newer 400 cc scoots? I'm sure there are tax implications in many markets for scooters this big.

interesting options...I have never seen a 'half' cover that Randy linked to nor have I seen a cover specifically designed to cover a tall windshield and a top box that Neil linked to. I guess I need to get out more.

Downtown 300 / Re: Start button problem
« on: April 15, 2025, 12:29:38 PM »
the contacts in your starter button can certainly be corroded, dirty or worn. My 41 year old motorcycle needs the starter button pushed in firmly and straight for it to work. I haven't gotten around to pulling it and cleaning it. I'd start with cleaning your starter button...if that doesn't solve the problem then it is on to other possibilities.
