General Discussion / Re: Can you I D this scooter ??

They don't have licenses of the designs... Chinese factories just copy... but they change the design a little bit so that Honda cannot sue...
No, they're exact licensed copies.  Same with Honda Keihin carbs. The parts are interchangeable, right through to the variator & gears.  I have a Honda Dio variator in my 4-stroke Kymco Sento, for example.  And a Kymco 2-stroke BBK in my Honda Dio.

Agility 50 / Re: anyone installed an AC cdi
« on: October 10, 2013, 08:56:49 AM »

looks like 99% of CDI out there are AC but the A50 is DC CDI, and i'm looking at a cdi with adjustable rev limiter but it's ac, can't find a DC one.

Did you try scooter-assassins.com?  They have unrestricted Kymco 4-stroke CDI units for various models.  I'm running one in my Kymco Sento 50.  Go here:

Technical | How To / Re: How to derestrict 50cc Kymco Cento 4-stroke?
« on: September 17, 2013, 12:45:09 AM »
Is the 28 mph what the speedometer is indicating, or a true 28 mph? Looking around the net it appears people are getting around 37 mph . . .

Exactly - that's why I'm asking.  There was a useful thread at one time, but it's totally fallen thru the cracks, so I have to ask the question again, hoping that someone will still be working on how to de-restrict 50cc 4-strokes.  I understand that jets may need changing, but more info is needed.  Just changing a jet by itself won't do anything.  For example, de-restricted CDI units are available on eBay for 139QMB engines, but they don't work on a Kymco 139QMB for some reason.  Does anyone know why?

General Discussion / Re: Why so many '09 'new' scooters for sale?
« on: September 17, 2013, 12:35:10 AM »
I could be wrong, but I've heard it's something to do with EPA & DoT testing.  You can still order new '09 scooters from the factory because they're still being made for different markets.  The '13 models are high-tech, fuel injected, ABS brakes, whereas the '09 models are standard Chinese GY6 engines, no ABS, etc.  The '09 models, therefore, are much easier to maintain.

General Discussion / Kymco Sento forum
« on: September 17, 2013, 12:24:59 AM »
I don't see a forum for the Kymco Sento 50cc.  Is there another model that's similar to the Sento so I'm not asking questions in the wrong group?

Technical | How To / How to derestrict 50cc Kymco Cento 4-stroke?
« on: September 13, 2013, 02:41:19 AM »
There was some earlier discussion started on derestricting 50cc 4T Kymcos, but the how-to photos were posted outside this forum and have disappeared.  What was left of the 4-page discussion was hijacked by 2-stroke speed demons, so in the end there's nothing left of the original discussion.  The stock variator on my machine isn't restricted, but I'm otherwise stuck in some kind of low-rpm mode that limits speed to 45km/hr (about 28mph).  Has anybody done this recently?

General Discussion / Re: What's your happy speed?

I like 65km/hr mostly because it's relaxing.  Higher speeds are fun, but stressful.  I occasionally enjoy passing BMWs at WOT (80km/hr) just for the fun of making a lot of noise.

General Discussion / Re: rollers/sliders
« on: September 09, 2013, 05:02:41 AM »
Searching for the truth about making changes to variator weights from stock/oem configuration.

Whether they're round or flat-sided, they all "slide", regardless of shape.  The round ones get flat-sided with use.  You can't lose by trying different types.  Just don't leave them in so long (say 5000 miles) that they wear through to the metal and damage the variator pulley.  Try to replace them before the plastic surface wears through.  The flat "sliders" seem to last a little longer, but some places charge too much $$ for them - so cheap round weights might be a better deal.

The Joker "style" has been very popular and as you say honda dropped it before it ever got here. With the right price Honda would be laughing at the other big bike makers over market share.

They're still Hondas underneath all the confusion.  Honda licenses the designs to various makers, and many parts are interchangeable.  For example Honda Elite 150 & Chinese Joker 150 clones have a lot of interchangeable parts including the engines, carburetors, transmissions, gears

Super 9 / Re: So,I changed the clutch springs...
« on: July 19, 2012, 07:15:16 AM »
how much would a new aftermarket clutch improve takeoff beyong this?

Springs make the difference in clutch operation.  If you plan to really abuse the clutch (think wheelies), the aftermarket clutches are a bit stronger - but no quicker.  If you abuse the stock clutch, it will crack near the pivot pins.  For most owners, the stock clutch with higher RPM springs will work just fine.

Super 9 / Re: My super 9... Pain to start
« on: July 19, 2012, 06:56:05 AM »
I've had this problem and the cause was the starter gears were full of rubber dust from the belt drive. For me it happened first about 7000km, and again about13,000km.  Take off the belt cover to expose the starter gears. Wash off the gears and spray with oil, and it's like you have a new starter.
