General Discussion / The end of gas-powered motorcycles?
« on: December 07, 2023, 08:54:16 AM »
There's a lot of noise from some regions about the end of gas-powered cars and trucks by 2030. What are the plans in your part of the world? Does this include scooters, motorcycles, boats and airplanes, too?

Technical | How To / Kymco stumbles at cruise speed?
« on: December 06, 2023, 03:32:02 AM »
Here's one for the trivia collection!  My Kymco 100 started stumbling at moderate cruise speed (about 60-70kph).  The rpm's would drop about 100rpm every 10 seconds or so.  Really annoying!  I went through everything, clutch, variator, carburetor, plug, coil, etc.  Nothing!  It doesn't have a computer for diagnostics, so I had to figure it out the old-fashioned way, replacing everything one by one until I found the villain.  Well, guess what it was: it was the stator.  It appears they get old like the rest of us and then then start stumbling!  Anyway, I ordered a new one from the dealer in France (AZ Motors), and it arrived 10 days later, plus a flywheel removal tool from Amazon Prime) and after an hour's work it was installed and running like a new one!

Now here's the takeaway for other Kymco owners trying to order parts.  My stator is identical to a Kawasaki KFX90.  There's no Kymco/Kawasaki interchange for parts, and Kawasaki denies that their parts are the same as Kymco parts, even though the Kawasaki parts say "Kymco" on the part.  This time I wasn't sure, so I had to actually order the part from France.  Sure enough, it turned out to be the same as a Kawasaki stator!  Now I have one more Kymco part that can be replaced by a Kawasaki part!

Technical | How To / Surprise Kymco Parts Source
« on: November 20, 2021, 09:26:33 AM »
I enjoy my 100cc Kymco Kiwi in spite of no dealers in my part of the world. It's a well-built, reliable (and very fast) small-frame scooter! So finding Kymco parts is always a challenge.  Parts can be found in China, at excellent prices, but Chinese online sellers are not up to speed.  So I was pleased to discover that the Kawasaki KFX90 is built by Kymco, and it uses standard Kymco bits and pieces like variator, clutch, starter, etc. The engine is the same, but carb is different. Since variator parts need to be replaced regularly, it's nice to know I can now find these parts at my local Kawasaki dealer!

Technical | How To / Kymco Part Numbers
« on: October 10, 2020, 11:30:08 PM »
Does anyone know of an online index of Kymco part numbers?  I'm finding some difficulty locating replacement parts, for example a 30400-LGE3-E00 CDI unit, a 31600-LBC6-90B voltage regulator, and a 31120-KGBG-90A stator.  Thanks!

General Discussion / Where does my Kymco come from?
« on: August 25, 2019, 03:57:42 PM »
I've asked before from time to time, but yet to find an answer. I have a  100cc Kymco Kiwi, exactly the same as a Kymco Sento, but with a much bigger engine & transmission.  I can't find where it comes from, so I can't find where to buy parts.  The engine top-end is the same as a Kawasaki ATV, and the drive also has a bigger ATV clutch. Does anybody have an inkling where these come from so I can find a source for repair parts? PS: FWIW, it's a really excellent small scooter, good for 90km/hr, probably the best small-frame scooter I've ever come across.

General Discussion / Parts from Taiwan?
« on: August 21, 2019, 08:09:09 AM »
My Kymco is not a model approved by Kymco USA, but is found in all over Europe & Asia.  As a result, I can't find parts through USA dealers. Nobody's ever heard of my model.  Does anyone know how to source parts from Taiwan, or the UK maybe?

General Discussion / Ordering Kymco parts
« on: July 26, 2019, 06:14:12 PM »
I'm trying to find a way to order Kymco parts.  There's some excellent on-line catalogs in places like France and Germany, but I'd like something in North America if possible due to the cost of shipping.  All that a mechanic needs is an illustrated parts catalog like this one:

https://www.bike-parts-kymco.uk/

It's a UK site, but based in France. It's an excellent online catalog for Kymco parts, but it doesn't have North American models.  Also shipping parts from France is really expensive. Does anybody have info on a North American site?

General Discussion / New sub-headings?

What happened to the idea of new sub-headings for different Kymco models (like the Kymco Sento series, for example)?

General Discussion / Kymco Kiwi
« on: June 17, 2019, 07:46:34 PM »
After beating my Kymco Sento senseless trying to get just a little more speed, I finally broke another crankshaft and scrapped the entire machine. I then found a rare Kymco Kiwi from Taiwan, which is a 100cc Sento which is a real rocket compared to the 50cc Sento.  From a slight distance, the two machines look exactly alike, but the stock engine in the Kiwi is really snappy, capable of 95km/hr compared to the stock Sento's 45km/hr.  The Kiwi can manage local highways no problem.  But my question for the forum is"Where do I find tech information on the Kiwi?"  It looks like a bigger QMB engine, but it's obviously a real thumper compared to the 50cc version.  But there's no online information on the Kiwi, no forum topics, no parts information, no nothing (as the saying goes).  Does anybody on this forum follow the Kymco Kiwi?

General Discussion / Login question
« on: June 07, 2019, 07:16:11 AM »
When I try to login with my new PC using my name & pwd, Kymco Forum responds:"You were unable to login. Please check your cookie settings."

Anyone have any idea what this means?

Technical | How To / Engine swap
« on: May 28, 2019, 10:39:29 PM »
The crankshaft on my Sento 50 broke, so I'm looking for a complete used engine to replace it.  Does anyone in the Kymco community know if  the 50cc Kymco Agility engine will fit in a 50cc Kymco Sento frame?  The engines look similar, but I'm shopping on eBay and it's hard to tell from the photos if they're exactly interchangeable.  My reason for asking is that there's lots of Kymco Agilitys being parted out, but very few (as in none) Sentos.

General Discussion / Kymco Kiwi 100?
« on: April 05, 2019, 06:22:07 AM »
Does anyone know what powers the Kymco Kiwi 100 (Sento 100)?  All I know is that it's a 101cc carbureted engine, not fuel injected.  It cruises at 80km/h which is awesome.  The real bonus would be if it's a Chinese gy6 because parts and service would be a snap.  But there is no 100cc gy6 engines AFAIK. Any ideas?

Kymco News / Diagnosing problems without a dealer
« on: November 21, 2018, 04:12:50 AM »
Following my question about getting along without a Kymco dealer is the problem of diagnostics without dealer tools.  I'm OK with my 10-yr old GY6 powered Kymco, but can't figure out how to maintain a new fuel-injected Kymco without Kymco diagnostic tools like on cars with OBD-2 ports.  I can't see a source for Kymco diagnostic tools.  Any suggestions?

General Discussion / Kymco Sento
« on: November 17, 2018, 04:55:46 AM »
Is there any reason this Kymco board doesn't include the Kymco Sento series?  That's Sento 50, Sento 100, New Sento 50i, New Sento 110i, etc?  Or is the Sento included under another name?
