This video (and there are a ton on YouTube) should give you some insight.  Not exactly "like" the "Like", but very similar and you will get a great understanding of all this.  Try searching some more.  All you would need to do is inspect the belt for wear and see how much "dirt" has accumulated inside the transmission.  Good luck.

You don't really clean the belt... you just remove those rubber dusts inside the cvt. I just use pressurized air and a small brush...

I had to rent a jackhammer to get mine off.  Not really, but it was on there GOOD!
