mxu 150 clutching help???
« on: January 18, 2008, 11:14:52 PM »
ok...i am very familiar with the autos and clutch tuning, thus not a newbie at all...here's my question...we got a new mxu 150 for the kid and i put some 22" mudlites on it for her and want a bit more low end power...now it seems as though it takes a decent amount of rpms to actually get the clutch to engage (much more than my kawies do),is this normal???does anyone have the specs for the oem primary and secondary springs???are there any aftermarket primary prings available???i see they have secondaries from epi,but need to know the oem specs first...thanks for any help i can get

also, any issues that anyone has had with the mxu 150 would be great...

sawhead glad to see you over here i hope mxu500 chimes in on this as he's boy has alot of miles on he's and not sure if he put a kit in he's or not.  All of my customers on the 150 havent had a lick of problems with there's.

I do now that they dont have a primary spring just weight rollers.

My son's mxu150 has ben running like a bat out hell. The only issues I have ever really had was once when it would suddenly cut out. It turned out to be a wire rubbing the frame. It was a wire going back to the rear brake light. Other than that, we did play around with some roller weghts and even slide weights but left rollor weights that were down a size or two. That improved acceleration.
It definetly takes the rpms up to get the clutch to engage.

We have 1200+ miles on it now...it has been through HE$$ and is still going strong.
Keep the front bushings greased and you be good to go!

looking for more low end torque rather than top end for her...that way it'll have a bit more umpf when we are creek riding or hitting the snow...thanks for the reply

I don't really know what to do to improve the low end other than the lighter roller weights. It doesn't really improve torque as much as it improves accelleration. I haven't really gone beyond that. Ours seem to have decent low end but it has to have the rpm's up to get it.
My dealer was getting stuff rom Martin Racing Performance (MRP-speed.com)  for GY6 150 motors and  stuff....maybe they have something you could check out there now...

I don't hear from the MXU150 owners on any websites like I thought I would.

It's been a great all around quad for us.

Hey...I would like to see a picture of yours with the 22" Mudlites.

Hey saw i think what your looking for is lighter rollers and a stiffer secondary spring which both combined will slow the shift out so when your in the creeks or snow and she gives it more gas it will still be in like low gear which will pull the quad and here threw easy than the stock setup which allows it to shift out quicker and loads the eng. = less rpms = less power  ;)

sawhead...saw your posts..
If bombman doesn't know where to get lighter rollers.....have him look into Martin Racing Performance (mrp-speed.com). That's where I got mine (via dealer) a year ago.
