Variator / Clutch Upgrade
« on: October 23, 2012, 01:04:10 AM »
Hello guys. I am about to a 300 GTi. How may of you are running  performance clutches such as Malossi, Dr Pulley, Polini, etc.....
Any gains with torque or top end performance?
I had malossi on my 125 and it was a completely different GTi. It was awesome!

Well a GY6 is only 150cc's, your bike is 300 so needs bigger parts so they won't
break. So you have to search for something they say will fit your exact bike. For
many of the bigger Kymco's there isn't much. If you want to do an upgrade you
should consider some Dr Pulley's sliders. They'll give you a bit more performance
and don't cost too much.

That info is tough to find, someone has to measure/weigh them and post the info.
Your bike is fairly new and I haven't seen it posted yet...

The Malossi store lists them at 20x12 14gm for the stock ones.

Hello guys. I heard that the GTI300 and the Downtown 300 are the same engine. Is this true? I guess all the parts are interchangeable if this is the case.
Still looking for clutch/variator upgrade.

Thanks

Hi guys. Looking to get some feedback from you all on aftermarket clutch systems. Polini, Malossi, Dr. Pulley.....
Anyone running them on their Downtown 300 or GTI 300?

Thanks

I need you guys help, I have four options for an aftermarket variator  system. They are: Malossi, Polini, Dr. Pulley, and J. Costa (turbokit.net)
I am leaning toward the Polini for the simple fact that they have a new variator which has a self lubricating bearing to eliminate sticking on take off.
I have also looked at the J Costa which has few reviews  but seems to be the best performer.

What are your thoughts? Any of you guys running these variators?

Why change it from stock? Isn't the 28.7HP enough? What are you trying to achieve here? Insight please!

My 300 has no low end. My GTI with a malossi clutch has more take off than the 300. Just experimenting on variators. Not trying to change the horsepower,  just want better and faster acceleration.

Agile, I would recommend allowing some more miles to learn all the "personality" first. Course, I'm an old guy with a DT 300i and think it works pretty well as it is. Different folks for sure, but just let it break in first so you can collect some specifics to know if your mods are effective.

the original rollers are   20/ 12   15  1/2 gr.   the most popular dr. pulley sliders are 20 /12  14  gr.   I bought 14  and 15 gr. slider at the same time as I did not know which I would end up with,.
