Biondi Windscreen GT300i
« on: July 24, 2012, 11:26:33 PM »
After much research I ordered and 1 week later received a Biondi Windscreen from an Italian Website Tagoscooter.com

http://www.tagoscooter.com/en/kymco/473_473_300_people_gti_2010-/windshields/12964_windshield_biondi_mod.wild_with_fitting_kit_-_cod.8061210_8500539.php

Cost delivered was $136.00 US (113 EU)  Their communication was excellent as they conveyed the order status and later shipment.  Now for the fit:  According to motorcycle windscreen design, the top of the windscreen should come between your lip and tip of nose while looking straight ahead.  Search the web and you will find videos of this reference.  I have had several screens that I cut to this level (SH150i & Kymco People 200).  The reason is so you look over the windscreen (unobstructed view) and the air is deflected above your head.  YOU SHOULD ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR .  This screen was the perfect height for me without any alteration.  I am 5'10" .  Many riders (cruisers) get higher screens and look through them (My Harley is this type but had higher quality optics).  You can always duck/tuck behind the Biondi if needed.  My only complaint was that I needed and used several washers as spacers on the left side windshield/mirror mount to even it's height with the right side.  It comes with one large one for the right side but not the left.  Overall, I am totally satisfied.    ;D ;D ;D ;D

Once you've installed it and ridden it for a while, see if you find a noticeable improvement in gas mileage.   For mainly highway riding, installing the Biondi on my People GTi 300 improved it from 67 mpg to a little over 80 mpg.   I'm curious to see if others experience this type of improvement.

I have now driven with the Biondi for several days and some miles and have some disturbing comments.  Although the protection size and appearance is perfect the shield dangerously distorts images that come up within 3-8 feet of the scooter.  There is a wind deflection curve at the top of the screen.  When looking far and forward, you see above the screen but when negotiating close objects you are forced to look lower and through the curved section.  When your line of sight is transitioned through this plastic angle the view is blurred and distorted when compared to the flatter surface below the curve or above the shield.  This is clearly a design flaw.

This irregularity is a dealbreaker for me.  I drive in the city and am constantly scanning high and low as i weave through stationary and moving objects.  As a result,  I have ordered the Givi but it won't be in for a month.   I have used the Givi on other scooters and their optics are far better.  My plan is to cut it down to the same height as the Biondi so I can avoid the leveraged weakness and cracking others have reported.  For now I'm careful how I look through this screen.

I have no issues with Biondi on my Downtown, and I have to look through it at all times.

I installed Biondi screen on my   GTi 300 today.  Makes a big difference and is very well made.  However, the instructions don't make clear that the rubber spacer should be installed pushed halfway through the windscreen so that half of the spacer is on the inside of the screen, and half is on the outside.  Duh.

I installed a Givi windscreen.  Visibility is clear as glass.  IMO, far superior IF you do certain modifications.  I needed to relocate the front turn signals.  I will post with pictures once I finish.  Also the windscreen needs to get cut down as its too tall.  This is why "JustGottaScoot" cracked his.  Once cut it is as strong as the Biondi.  My Biondi is now for sale, it's better than perfect because it's been modified with welds for the mirror tabs.  This was a defect in its design.
