MXU review
« on: December 19, 2007, 10:58:02 PM »
Well I finally got it put together and running today.  I moved the Handlebars closer to me than factory settings and I also went ahead and striped the racks.  Its about 30 degrees here in North Carolina so I didn't ride maybe an hour or so. :'( The power is real strong, it just has a slight low end bog about it. It handles fairly well but the turning radius is sad. Do they all do this or what? I really like the seat and the lights as well. I have a pipe on the way and I am going to pop out 2 rollers of the clutch and the low end bog should go away.  But so far I am very happy and with a couple of mods I will be on my way to a 2008 lites class championship. :o ;D

Allright.....been waiting on your review.
Yes, you reported everything just like I thought....

Power is strong, except there is this low end bog. Removing the two roller weights does wonders here as well as just getting through the break in period and looseing up the motor some. I run 26" XTR's and I can spin them now....before I could bog it down with my 25" stockers.

The pipe will wake it up as well....what pipe is it?

The handling is ok, but the a-arm improvements that 500Racer2 and Dan (he rode the Mongoose last year) are working on will eventually make it to stock units and that will drastically improve the front end. Make sure your toe in is set right...that adjustment helped me a lot!

Please keep us informed on what you think and what mods and all you do.....it helps us regular guys out alot :)

First of all, why does the newest member of the team have quads and last years riders don't??  Second of all, taking the rollers out will not remove the low end bog completely, it is the fact that the machine weighs 700 lbs. and there is nothing to strip when it is race ready, and third of all, 2008 class championship over my hairy @$$!
Waa, Waa, Waa, its 30 dgrees here in NC, suck it up, its 8 degrees in Ohio.
Bring it, Newbie !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea as soon as the AC pipe gets here I am taking off the airbox lid and throwing in a K&N along with the clutch mod. That should wake it up nicely.  I am just wanting to get that GT thunder front end on there and that should take care of my little problem. I have a set of GBC dirt tamers going on it shortly. Stockers don't cut it.

I am surprised to see you guys running dirt tamers....aren't those like the Maxxis Bighorns? I figured those would be too heavy for you racing and you guys would go with something lighter. Don't get me wrong....I might get me a set for Summer riding (when it is bone dry and rocky....the XTR is not the best there I found out this year).

500Racer2.....you d man.....I am glad I am not out there racing against you....you'd have me all spooked :D
You guys are gonna be a hell of a team....four Kymco racers all on the line side by side going for the hole shot every race...look out.

You need to get the EPI clutch kit and put the white spring in the secondary, you will be amazed at the speed you will gain.

I beleive you ken. Well guys I made a mid pipe for the LTE muffler I had laying here and man that opened her up. I also put in a polaris 800 K&N air filter with 3 holes in the lid and an outerwear on the filter. The stock filter is a piece of crap.  I also took out 2 rollers in the clutch and that helped it out a bunch too. Now I need a white secondary and maybe the lowend bog with go away.  I wish I had some video of my exhaust because its so loud. ;D

Mxu_red are you close to durhamtown, because I need to make a trip down there one weekend.

So 4ooracer...
With the new pipe and K&N and the holes in the airbox....how responsive is the throttle at low end? When you rev' it up , is it real responsive or does it stumble at first?
Just curious because I can not run with a open air box lid...it stumbles real bad from idle to a throttle stab. WIth the airlid on, it is good.

Anyway...I am about 1.5 ours from Durhamtown. Also about 1.5 hours to BroadRiverATV park (Broadriveratv.com) , which is closer to you). I am thinking about making a trip myself real soon...When you wanna go?

I left the lid because I don't want to risk water jumping into it. Its smooth right off the bottom all the way through. I am impressed with the power. I need to know how to stall this thing??? Let me do some checking on where I can go and when we can do it.

How tight are the trails at broad river? Are they tight?
