Kymco frost 200i (valve adustment engine at TDC ?)
« on: September 05, 2011, 05:23:55 PM »
Hi everyone this my first time on site. I am trying to complete my first service on my 200i but after talking of the cly head to check valve clearence it accured to me I have no way of turning engine over to get my tdc for cheking the adjustment . I dont have a kick start on this scooter although phots all show one. Do I have to take pully cover off and prehaps move by hand that way. ? any help only got 400k on or so and dealers want 3hours at $70 hr. Cheers any help would make my day.

On my People 150 there is a nut in the center of the fan on the right side. Just put a socket on it and turn it. I hope you meant the valve cover not the cylinder head.

Sorry about that. I didn't catch Frost. Thats the same as our Yager. Not much information on that one, Maybe someone who owns one will chime in.

This may help..

Yes you can turn the crank via the variator centre nut, or grab the fins on the variator if you're strong of hand!!!! What is the valve clearance on that, 0.1mm (0.004") as on most? To be honest though, at 400Km i doubt very much they will be out, maybe the dealer making a fast buck?

I haven't seen a 200i or a service manual for one yet.  If you have enough of the body covers off to see the center of the crankshaft - then on one side it may have a large round screw off cover with an O ring under it.  If you take that cover off - then you can turn the crank with a socket.

My Xciting 500 has that and a smaller cap over a timing hole - both on the oil filler side.  I have to align the T mark in the timing hole while the punch marks on my cams are upwards - and then read my valve clearance.

If you don't have a service manual then I would suggest you talk to someone with a 200i engine before doing it.
