going to be doing some wrenching on my scoot tomarrow new belt and 5.5 rollers then I wont be slow no more.

Compare you old belt against the new belt when you take it out. I finally found out yesterday why I was loosing 5mph top speed, my new belt is too wide.

I fitted a new 729-18-30 belt and did a few other changes, since then it was crap to ride and more rough. Compared my old belt and its a good 2mm less wide so didnt sit in the lowest point on my rear pulley cos it was too wide to go all the way down. Allowing for wear on my old belt I reckon a 729-17-30 is closer to my stock belt so I just ordered a new Gates Powerlink belt last night. Refitted old stock belt meantime and I regained my top end straight away.

Just a warning to compare widths when you fit it in case you get the same issue.

just got my clutch off and I see I need a new one I pulled some small pieces of wire out of it maybe its from the belt not sure Ill try the new belt when it gets here and see hopefully the small pieces of wire was from the belt not the clutch.

Wouldnt have thought wire would come off a belt? Maybe you just got unlucky and something got in the cvt air intake before?

If it looks ok I would just try it anyway. When your new belt arrives see if its much wider than your old belt, my new belt was about 2-3mm wider. And if you already got the clutch off then take off the torque spring and pull the rear pulley apart as far as the go, check the new belt fits right into the bottom of the pulley, my new one would not, that gave me the problems.

ok thanks Ill do that. I took a very fine file to the inside of the clutch just to make sure its smooth and no more wire are sticking out. clutch looks ok and the bads look very good hardly any wear on theam.the springs all look good too. just siting back and waiting for the belt to come u.p.s.

wrenching is done for now scoot does very well. new belt and a good clean up.good long ride last night with the club and it did good thanks again for he belt jenny .,

So which size belt did you end you using then blue? Is your scoot 10 or 12" wheels?

I got my new belt today to try, 729-17.7-30, mine is 12" wheels. Fit it tomorrow or sunday if the rain ever stops here and see how it works out.

ya mine is the 12 inch wheels I put a 18x9x737 on it. after market belt looks like the sizes are dif. but it works good for me.

blue, you're right. aftermarket belts have different dimensions than stock and as I could see, everything from 729 - 748 works. my stock was 729 but too short and now I run 748 and it's not touching starter bendix neither var. casing and I got significant speed increase.  Important thing with belts is quality. softer belts have more grip but streching and short lasting. harder ones could be rough on your variator like streido said somewhere. and every one needs right var. set up to perform as it should. For my 748 right set up was provided with malossi multivar kit(white torque spring and 5.5 g rolls). And one tip(I guess most of you know that), after new belt installation, drive your scoot slowly for the first 4-6 miles and let it wear in properly. This way it's gonnal last longer and provide propper performance. If you drive too fast, the belt is going to tear itself more than it should. Above written is from my own experience  ;D

understand what your saying woodcutter when I frist put my belt on it didnot ride right at frist then after the frist few miles and it finding its way down the clutch it road a lot better. I can now get back up to my top speed of 45 to 48 and down a small hill I might reach 50.
