Shoot - looking at another Burgman - UPDATE
« on: October 04, 2026, 08:16:48 PM »

Sold my 2014, fairly new at the time - @5,500 miles. Bought a 155cc Piaggio Liberty.
Just happened to come across this Burgman, 27 miles distant. Private seller. Asking questions.
Asking $2,300 - but has been on the market a while - winter coming. Might get it for less, cash in hand.
These things outlive most rider's interest in scooter riding. With oil changes, 40K to 100K miles w/o even a valve check.

I'm still browsing for first choice of another Honda Forza.....
So. But this is a handsome bike - especially after I removed the top case and go to a smaller sport screen. These stock tall screens will beat up a tall guy!!

Thoughts?

Interesting! Well, you already are familiar with the Burgman so there will be no surprises for you as far as ride and handling go. 400cc will certainly move you along a little easier and the ride must be softer with the extra weight and long wheelbase.

This is a good time of year to buy with cool weather approaching. Big question - if you bought this what other bike (or bikes??) would you give up?

The 2012 LIKE200I LX (2-tone paint and a few xtra chrome bits. $100 xtra) would go. Ohio streets are at the point I can't find a decent path for the 12" tires and the remaining one inch of suspension travel.

489lb Burgmans ride like a Buick.
If this one was cemetery gray again - I'd not be so interested.
These babies will hunker down and purr at 90mph, especially if you massage the roller weights a touch to lower the rpm's.
Just have to remove that murderous tall screen they come with. A $150 Ermax sport screen works so much better.

Well we couldn't come together on a price for this 19 yr old scooter.
These days, I am much more interested in riding that wrenching.
My riding habits (rain, cold, dark, rural) require a bullet proof scooter - but for the right price I would have purchased this aged Suzuki.
I wished him luck and suggested he also try posting on the Burgman forum.

Today my middle daughter said she is going to sell the 2006 Burgman 400, (8,000 miles?) she bartered for a while back. My grandson, her son, is going into the Army in two weeks.....hopefully for 4 yrs?
I asked if my granddaughter, 18, would be wanting to ride it. It seems she is still on her permit - pretty much refusing to drive at all!
I gave the boy some advice and told my daughter to keep the tarp on the Burg today - I dare not look at it - I'm not interested.
He asked if I would come to his basic graduation. I said, probably not - I wasn't keen on being at my own a thousand yrs ago - and, at 600 miles, I wouldn't go that far if my wife was graduating.
Tempered that with $700.
Tough love.

I thought you were going to say that you would re-home your daughter's Burgman! Serendipity!

I understand about your 18 yr old granddaughter still being on her driving permit with little desire to drive. My 16 and 19 year old daughters are doing the same. I've even bought them both cars for future use when they get their license....someday.....

Neil, You must be a lot more optimistic about the future of car ownership than I am. Costs are all but guaranteed to rise faster than wages, with gas rationing a real possibility in the near future.  And lasting a long time, given what’s going on energy wise world wide. Not sure it’s doing young people a favor by getting them accustomed to getting around by traditional vehicles.

I see a much better landscape forming for scooters, mopeds, e-bikes, even golf carts.  From what I can tell, younger generations realize car ownership is unaffordable and undesirable. There’s actually a lot of good that can come from such a shift.

There are new, innovative ways of getting around showing up all the time now. I’m all for embracing them, as I’ve long believed driving 3-6 ton cars to be unsustainable, both financially and environmentally.

I don’t mean to second guess your parenting, just trying to throw out an unconventional viewpoint.

MB, were you addressing me? I also agree that the future does not include gas powered cars....but in the present my daughters will both need to have the ability to drive a car on their own. We live in a suburban area that is not walkable to school, friends houses , daughter's dance, stores, etc. Not really safe biking and neither will follow their Dad and go on 2 wheels. So we're left with driving a car. Both cars I purchased are old..21 and 26 years old...so I'd rather keep something old on the road rather than add a new vehicle to the congestion.

Ooops, sorry Hawk.

Figured it involved a situation requiring car transport. It’s the case for you and a couple hundred million others in this country.  Think that’s going to cause financial trouble for a lot of people in the coming years. Wouldn’t be surprised if vehicles become used more for shelter and less for transportation.
