Scuffed DTX360
« on: September 12, 2026, 12:03:03 PM »
A week or so ago I was parked up at a local minimarket (TescoExpress) and while I was inside a guy in a white panel van reversed into the scoot and knocked it over!  Long story short he offered to pay for it outside the insurance route.  Fair enough.  I got the quote (£360) to fix scuffed paintwork the next day and by that evening the £400 was in my account.  See, there are some decent folks out there.

Now the quandary.  Do I go through with the repair to a very minor bit of gravel rash or do I live with it and transfer the funds elsewhere in the biking budget?

Regards & ride safe,
Neil

That's always a fear, that someone will run into our parked scoots. Glad you were hit by an honest person! Hard to tell from pics, is your paint scraped down to white plastic underneath or is that white paint transfer from the van that hit you?

Asking because if it is paint transfer that can be fairly easily removed. I might lean toward cleaning up the scuff to make it look a bit better but not having it professionally repaired. Your money = $541 USD, that will buy something fun for the scoot.

Bummer Neil!
Amazing interaction with your other party.
Only damage I've had to one of my rides was decades ago, Massachusetts senior L turned into me on my Honda bike. Went down, broke mirror and turn pod....no other damage.
Since he didn't contact me - I'd no grounds for consequences.
So far, my 4 scooters have never been marked. Early on, not familiar with LIKE's sidestand - it nearly tipped but I caught it.
With my Piaggio I read the VESPA forum. Countless stories of tipped Vespas being totaled by the insurance company!
My young wife had a dump truck back into the hood of our new '73 Super Beetle. Dinner plate sized dent. His company paid the printed dealer statement cost of new hood, painting, and installation. We pocked the $ after i laid the hood on the grass and popped the dent out with rubber mallet.  The paint was cracked, but nothing I  couldn't live with🙂
