Scooter stalled during a ride, wouldn’t start back up.
Had been running great.

Two engine codes flashing:  ignition circuit abnormal (been flashing for a couple yrs, scoot running fine so I ignored it)
Oxygen sensor circuit abnormal (just started)

Replaced the o2 sensor about 8000 miles ago.  Time for a new one? First one lasted almost 30,000 miles, replacement was oem.

Search revealed CDI box, stator, or ignition coil could also be the issue.  How to find out which?

Can start by replacing o2 sensor, but at $130 it can be a pricey process of elimination

what bike is this happening on? That may help with the diagnosis.

MB, start with bread'n butter search

-spark there?
- new plug, cap, cable?
-killswitch?
-fuel comes?
-injection..etc
If this all is healthy then we go further.

Cranks but doesn’t turn over, so no spark I guess

Definitely spark, tested that this morning.  Sorry bout the confusion.

Inclined to think it’s the o2 sensor, except they should last longer than 8k miles. Is there another issue that cause the o2 sensor to go bad?

What else could trigger “oxygen sensor circuit abnormal”?

If it says "O2 sensor faulty", does not neccessarely mean this sensor itself is out of order.
Unplug the sensor and see what happens. Control this "stiff" sensor cables for chafings or being broken close to the connector.
Should be only an additional failure code.

RH pannier off and check the second air system.
Are there hoses off or this canister defect/molten?

How about fuel? Fuelpump starts with ignition on?
If yes, fuel line off, comes fuel?
If yes, injector out, does it spray?

In case anyone is interested:

After too much time watching YouTube vids and searching stuff, I'm pretty sure the ignition coil needs replacing.
They don't have nearly as long a life as O2 sensor, and mine has outlived its normal lifespan. Guessing a worn out
one would set off "Ignition Circuit Abnormality" engine code?  But then, would the scooter computer detect a failing
ignition coil (been flashing for many months while the scoot's been running fine) before it outright fails (causing scooter not to start)?

Just in case, ordered an O2 sensor (arrives tomorrow).
Unfortunately the ignition coil won't get here for 12 days or so.

Not too humid yet, but likely will be when you get here.
Seems our drought ended the past couple days.  Rained as hard as I ever remember a couple nights ago. Came down in sheets for 30 minutes.

You might like my yard. Some call it overgrown.  I call it the “state park” look. It’s what I’ve always wanted, plus I despise yard work (but not gardening). No mower or blower, never even raked leaves in 30 yrs.  In fact I snatch bags from neighbors late at night. 

PS  hope the cure isn’t as trying as the breakdown.  Happened 7 miles from home. Roadside assistance initially said 45-55 minutes.  An hour later the same. And again. Got home 4 ½ hours after first calling it in.

Tow truck driver said he was the only one on that day. They usually have 15 drivers!  Nobody wants to work Sundays. He had driven 500 miles by the time he got to me. Imagine driving a tow truck that far in a day!

New ignition coil finally arrived, installed it, no change🙁.

Put in new iridium spark plug, no change. 😠

Maybe it’s the valves?  Top valve was closed, all right that must be the problem. Adjusted it, no change😫.

Trying to start scooter it sounds and acts exactly like the kill switch is on. Tried taking apart what the kill switch is attached to (on the handlebar), one of the two screws turns but won’t come out😡.

Could a faulty kill switch be the problem?  Still puzzled by what is setting off the two engine codes, and whether that is what is causing the on start.  Again, scoot ran fine up until it wouldn’t start🤔

I’m exasperated at this point.

If there was no chain jump why should valves be the culprit?

Kill switch has a green and a white cable...
- take a needle and short this two cables
- Yes, drive the needle through both wires without touching ground
- this two cables towards coil, have secure fit and aren't broken?
- side stand switch engaged?
- tilt sensor/ relay engaged/faulty?
- ground cable from battery minus to engine rotten?
- take a different spark plug (new is no guarantee)

AND AGAIN, is there fuel coming?
Is there a spark?
A systematic search is essentiell.
What does it now?
