front wheel noise on my 450i
« on: February 14, 2026, 04:17:08 PM »
I have my utv outfitted with a diesel transfer tank for my tractor, also registered for street as an ag vehicle, so I drive it on the road about 10 miles each way to a gas station that carries off road diesel

yesterday I had to make a diesel run, I take the back roads, as frost heaved as they are. I got to the station with no issues, when pulling up to the pump I went a couple feet too far and when backing up, CLUNK, When I left to return home, clunk and clatter coming from the left front, then it quieted to a loud whir of ticking with every rotation of the wheel, made it back home, and no issues with 4wh in my unplowed (7"±) drive, or even going thru the windrow the town leaves on the side of the road

sounds like a bicycle with cards in the spokes about 1/3  of the way around

It will be going to dealer anyway, due for service and rear brake

Could it be the wheel bearing Randy?  If it is, relatively easy/inexpensive fix?
Regards & ride safe,

Is it a bad CV?
Don't know if your vehicle has these?

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

leaning toward bad cv, gonna wait a few weeks before I call dealer to come get it, transfer tank still half full and it might snow, putting diesel in my tractor with 5 gallon containers sucks lifting em that high

After 11 years, the good news, engine still runs perfect, transmission belt barely worn, original battery died while loading on trailer to get to dealer, it had just started from a cold start an hour earlier so battery had to be replaced, 11 years oem battery not bad,

ack!! the bad news, needs front differential unit $950 for the part/assembly another $200-$300 installation labor plus already accrued charges, $2200, more than the beat up eleven year old utv that I bartered for

but, it's all set up with diesel transfer tank, Risk fuel containers, big wooden block 2'x2'x18"high with work vise, and big optima yellow top battery for 12v power jump starting, etc.

it's also narrower in the woods than most other utv's, and paid for

yep, I gave em the go ahead
