my most expensive scooter ride

March 31, 2015 - a lovely sunny ride to my favorite destination.....turned ugly.
Rear tire was cut by a piece of tin in the road. Front tire flicked it up - and then it sliced a 2" gash in the rear.

I was halfway between home and the Honda dealership, so called for a tow to the dealer for a new tire.
I learned my AAA "road recovery" policy did not cover my scooter. I would have needed to add the recreational vehicle rider to my policy.

Waited nearly 2 hrs for the truck. Paid @$235 for the tow 5 miles to the dealer.
Tire* R&R was @ $380. I was lucky that the dealer could take the Forza straight in for the work.

* I learned that day that there was not a tire of the correct size in the USA. So, went one size up - which O'd the speedo error!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

it sure makes one think about how we'd get our bike home is we broke down far away. This sounds crazy but I 'think' I joined the AMA (American Motorcyclist Association)?? I know I thought about it late last year, and visited their website....but for the life of me I can't recall pulling the trigger. Then last week I got an email welcoming me to the AMA and saying my first issue of the member magazine and membership card were on the way!

AMA provides towing for bikes as part of the membership. I have a buddy who is a member and it is possible he got me a membership as a Christmas gift?

It's hell getting old!

yes, I have AAA Premier RV just for that reason. Last fall when I broke down towing a trailer with my UTV on it, they had to make 2 trips. We have it also for my GF's  ShortBus  $214/yr, we get our money's worth, I haven't used it for a bike yet, I do carry the necessary straps (cam lock straps don't take up as much space as ratchet straps), some of those tow truck guys would just as soon lay your bike on it's side and chain it down
