Went for an ambulance ride on New Years
« on: January 06, 2026, 12:30:44 AM »
just had to check out my new insurance.

chest pains, thought I was having a heart attack, turned out to be a combination of pancreatitis, diverticulitis, transaminitis, acute hyperglycemia

IV only first 2 days, then a day and a half on clear liquids before real food, not just any hospital food, but from a cafeteria that draws customers from outside the hospital, has a pretty good lunch crowd

never been poked with so many needles in so few days, I look like a junkie. but home this evening

Wow Randy, what a lousy way to see in the New Year!  Glad you're back home as it's no fun being cooped up in the hospital - as I know from this time last year!
Regards & ride safe,
Neil

Randyo, smart move calling an ambulance...just in case. Too any people (men) think that whatever pain they are experiencing will just go away if they tough it out. Bummer to be in the hospital but it does get you looked over very well....kind of like having your car in the shop and up on the lift!

not my first ride, yes, I've had pancreatitis, a TIA, seizures and BP crash for previous rides as well as driving myself

I'm wondering if my diabetes is going to graduate from metformin to insulin, they were giving me insulin in the hospital, home back to oral metformin, Glucose meter is on my shopping list.

I was just thinking of listing my ailments, but it's so long I'm sure to forget something ma aortic aneurysm is hereditary, but just about everything else started after I had Lyme

Randy,
sorry to hear all this!
That's quite a list of ...... bad parts.
We've both exceeded our warranty - so visits back to the dealer are a good call - and expected, I guess.
Take care of yourself buddy - hoping you have access to a caregiver?

Keep us informed, please!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I have a good team, my PCP is highly praised by my specialists and the nurses during my hospital stay, he recently retired from Naval Reserve at rank of Captain. couple times other doctors did my annual physical cause he was deployed, in Afghanistan and during covid, on a hospital ship docked in NYC. I also regularly see a neurologist for my seizures, a urologist for my prostate, a gastroenterologist,  need a new CPAP doctor, I have good dentist and eye doctor

New insurance, I did have a Generations Advantage plan administered by Martin's Point, but the pulled out of NH as did several others, now I have a Humana Generations Advantage plan, my PCP is not in the network, I will have to pay out of pocket and hope to be reimbursed

I took a second ambulance ride on 1/20, I doubled over with pain, result of poking and prodding, a Ct scan, pinched nerve, still some pancreatitis going on, follow up with GI & PCP, my PCP ordered up some PT
had an MRI, now they want an ESCt ?  (biopsy of my pancreas going down mt throat thru my stomach) and I got a colonoscopy coming up too. Come a long way in just 5 sessions of PT so far

yet another ambulance ride on 3/27. tripped on my deck while reaching for my front door handle (I use door handles instead of knobs)  fell on my left hip on the threshold, thought I broke my hip for sure, after some morphine, an x-ray, some oxycodone and then a Ct scan, turned out to be particularly large hematoma and sent me home with a walker and a scrip for hydrocodone (not oxycodone by my choice)    I'm getting around without the clumsy walker, but still a gimp with a walking stick, glad I have handicap plates on my truck and AK550

New hip is not as bad, got it leftside replaced. After overall five weeks (three weeks REHAB) I didn't feel anything anymore. Only the scar reminds me of that intervention. No pain, no reztriction of movement, nothing.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus
