wind~!, rain, debris and temps dropping
« on: November 26, 2025, 08:28:24 PM »
Up at 5 this morning to get in a ride before Thanksgiving w/e.
Wind advisory from the W, and rain, with temps dropping as I rode.
The rain was steady but light - while the wind was a riding factor!
With the farm fields harvested - there was little to protection from the heavy cross wind. Blowing in cold weather from the west, I believe. (10 hrs later - it is still blowing hard out there! 24mph, w/gusts)

Downtown Springfield on my way to Yellow springs for coffee I passed a homeless person, on a metal bench, wrapped in a blue tarp. It blew and rained on him all night. Too warm for the 'warming shelters' to be open. His cardboard box had blown over, scattering his belongings into the street. I stopped with the scoot running, gathered up his stuff and wedged the box under the bench. I had a chuckle when - from under the tarp - came a "thanks!"

It was moist, cold and windy.
Loved it!

glad you got your dark, rainy windy ride in yesterday! If what hit us is coming your way you'll want to stay off the roads for a bit. Brutal winds for about 24 hours, 50 mph, tore all remaining leaves off the trees and the wind will be followed by snow Friday night into Saturday. But warmer days are always around the corner. Happy Thanksgiving to our US members.

I was taking pics here.....

Turned around and saw this....
I've passed this way pre-dawn heading for Y.S's for years and I've seen many sleeping here, next to the RR tracks thru the winter. My wife doubts me - "Too cold and the bench has an arm in the center!"
I snapped this of his blue "house" and then noticed the tipped box and his belongings scattered in this little scenic park in front of the hotel.

Again, it was very windy, cold and it had rained all night.

From my days as a teen vagrant in 'Frisco, 1967, have had a concern for the street people living along the Tenderloin. Had a close relative living like this recently.
