added a windscreen to the motorcycle
« on: October 05, 2025, 10:18:24 PM »
while I love the naked bike in town on the highway it gets to be very tiring. I ordered a Slip Streamer 'universal' tinted screen and installed it this morning. I assumed I'd have to tweak it some after riding to get the best installed position. Took a nice 28 mile ride in the heat and wind today (85 F and 20-30 mph winds). Very odd feeling with almost no wind blast from my waist to my visor. Lots of buffeting on top of helmet and much noisier.

I believe the solution will be to adjust the screen up another inch or two and maybe tweak the angle?  First time installing a universal screen...my Helix and Ninja have fitted screens.

Try to lower avoiding this jet effect.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

I raised it yesterday about 1.5 inches. I haven't ridden the bike yet. If that doesn't help I will try your suggestion, Ruffus. Thanks.

it looks like raising the windscreen did the trick. While today was another windy, gusty day...I think I have the screen set up correctly. I'll still want to ride it on a calm day to confirm. The nice thing is this screen has 2 small thumbscrews to turn to remove the windscreen.  My plan is to remove the screen for around town in the heat of the summer but to install the screen for any highway trips.

I'm excited to take this old bike on a longer trip, maybe overnight, now that I have wind protection.

pic attached..kind of hard to see the screen in the pic

final update (I hope)...1st screen position had too much top of helmet buffeting at speed...2nd try, raising it higher and at a steeper angle helped minimally. 3rd try (as suggested by Ruffus) was to lower it, which I did. I also positioned the screen more vertically...kind of like a little barn door in front, but it did the trick.

Went for a ride Friday afternoon (63 F, 17 C), sunny and nice. Only got up to about 55 mph but it seemed to do the trick.

I still don't like the look of the bike with a screen on it...but it makes it enjoyable to ride in cooler weather. Luckily the screen is removeable with just 2 thumb screws so I can easily take it off during warm weather and put it back on in the cooler months.

My Burgman came with the stock tall screen....as seen here on my grandson's 400.
Big ol' swoopy thing that absolutely battered my head at pretty much any speed.

After riding a Forza with a small screen, and my LIKE200i with no screen - and enjoying the ride - I went shopping for a much smaller screen.

This French ERMAX sport-screen was perfect! I much prefer wind in my chest - than head bashing!

I imagine I just became so accustomed to the wind in my chest on the LIKE that I think I prefer it.
None of my previous 3 or 4 Honda bikes had a screeen.

It was easy to sell to sell the stock tall screen. First day on the Burgman forum a fellow came from out of state to buy it!
I guess they break when you drop the scooter.

I must be missing something, but if the screen directs wind to your chest, why bother w a screen at all?
2014 BV 350  "IndiGO" (fast, strong and tireless)
2006 Honda Rebel 250  "Snow Leopard" (stealthy, agile and durable)
2018 Lance Cali Classic 200i  "Black Panther" (smooth, nimble, quiet and quick)
2016 Wolf V-50 (sold)

Wanted a Kymco, ended up w a Lance, but that forum is inactive, so I am here

I've never seen a Burgman 400 without a screen.
Probably look weird.

LOL! No, it's the opposite!  The top of the windshield should be at your helmet facemask height.  There shouldn't be any buffeting when it's set right.

Somebody named Allan Instapot says:

The "perfect" height for a motorcycle windshield is subjective, but a common guideline is to aim for a height that levels with the tip of your nose or is slightly below eye level, allowing you to look over the top for a clear view of the road. This position deflects the wind over your helmet while preventing you from looking through a dirty or obstructed screen. Another option is a taller, "look-through" windshield, which provides maximum protection but should be 2–3 inches above your line of sight and may need to be kept extra clean.

Acrylic screens can break, but the Lexan ones don't. Lexan is bullet-proof and costs more. If scratched, they can be buffed as good as new. Always ask!

My '23 People S 150 came with a really tall windscreen from the factory. It was great in the good weather, but terrible in the rain. I found several good videos on You Tube and cut the windscreen down 5". It's perfect for my 5'10" frame now. I can see over the top of it in the rain, and the wind buffers over the top of my helmet.

Nice job.
Those People's are great looking scooters.
I need to visit my dealer and look at his Kymco, Honda and Suzuki scooters again.
Been several months since my last sightseeing visit@
