80mins before sunrise avoids a lot of traffic!
« on: September 15, 2025, 02:32:39 PM »

Highly recommend early morning rides!
Earlier, the better.
I'm up by 5:00 and on the scoot by 5:30.
Saw maybe two cars once I left the city until arriving in my coffee village.

not early morning but evening...I took my first ever night ride Sunday night. 8:30 - 9, very few cars out, warm evening. Just stayed local, in town. I rode my Helix...and of course a rabbit almost took me out within a few blocks of home. Dang rabbits...

I put in an led bulb a few years ago (?) but have never ridden it at night. Very nice light spread on low but the light stopped shorter than I would like. at 35 mph I was overdriving my lights. Brights were great so I'd switch back and forth between them when possible.

I can now understand your (Stig) enjoyment of the slow morning rides in the dark! (only took me 10 years)

Like Hawk, not early morning, but out this afternoon and it's feeling autumnal already!  Temperature range was 13-16C and I was glad that I'd put the liner back into my leather jacket.  The open face Caeberg will need to go back into store until next summer and I'll be breaking out the AGV for winter duties.

13-16C (55-60F) is getting cool!  We have had recent daytime temps in the 32C range (90F +)...too hot to be out!

Hoping I spoke too soon.  Yesterday it was back up to 21C.  Lovely!

Good for you guys!
Hawk - don't know how much city you'd have to get through to be on your scoot out in the boonies.
Out there it's just ..... Zen-like

add some rain 'ticking' on your helmet (sounds like Cheerios hitting)...and it is great! But, you do have to have a dry place to enjoy your coffee and people watch!

Evenings around here have way too much traffic in town and out on rural roads for me.
Also -dawn rides get me home before the gang are even out of their jammies.
My riding does not take me away from my family time.

And it's very warm some evenings! Almost never at dawn.

Had some errands to run across town yesterday at 4pm and went on the DTX.  Rush hour traffic !  Boy was I glad I was on two wheels not in four.  The old lane-splitting skills soon reestablished themselves and I reckon my 50 minute round trip would have been at least 90 in Jo's Landy!  Scooter 1 Tin Boxes 0

Update 25 Sept
- Had an early morning Doctor's appointment today (5 miles of country lanes away) and although not pre-dawn, at 07:30 hrs it felt like it to me!  Decided to pull on my big boy pants and take the scooter.  Blue sky and low lying sunshine.  Temperature at 5C and humidity 86% made for an interesting combination as I went under trees and into a misty area.  Even with the fog city insert on my visor it clouded over on the outside making for challenging conditions as I emerged back into the low sun the other side!  Could've done with your painter's tape at this point Stig.

A "good to be alive" morning.

I'm in a subdivision on the edge of a smaller town, which itself is a bedroom community for the next larger towns. I can be in the boonies in less than 5 minutes. It's just the deer are so prevalent here, especially this time of year, that riding in the dark outside of town is too risky.

Granted Hawk,
But I've been riding through deer/Ohio for a dozen years, year around. Seen plenty of deer - but at a full-dark cruising speed of @ 19 > 25 MPH (actual) - knock-on-wood, so far, we've been able to avoid each other.

At my age - I don't want to come off of this scooter at any speed. So, I'm careful.
