Poor ride with new tyres, any thoughts?
« on: August 20, 2025, 07:53:04 PM »
I recently had new tyres fitted front and rear, and ever since at speeds 20-40 kph on smooth roads the front jumps around like I'm riding over cobble stones then smooths as speed increases.
I went to a local shop for the tyres and it was not a good experience, so I don't want to go back.
I don't know whats wrong but I'm thinking the forks are binding, so the plan is to loosen the axle bounce the bike and re-tighten it.
I would like ideas other owners may have?
Thanks and stay safe.

Was your front wheel dynamically balanced after tire change?
Are your wheel bearings in good order?
Were your wheel/s properly remounted?
What kind of tires you bought?
All this effects.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

Thank you. I really don't think they balanced the wheels. At low speed it feels like the forks aren't moving. They are Dunlop standard size.
I worry about the mounting but it looks ok, I think I will remove a and refit the front. They work on expensive bikes and I think they just didn't care about mine, they even due a large arrow on the rims with a paint pen direction of rotation.

Way back when I had my People 150 I used Dyna Beads to balance the tires and they worked very well for me.

It turned out the problem was my fault. After fitting lower rear shocks the bike was too upright when the kick stand was down, so I increased the front preload to raise the bike a little and it was too much causing the front to skip.
Backed the preload to almost standard and it rides well.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.
