NSR - but maintenance related
« on: June 27, 2025, 06:08:28 PM »
just finished replacing the front struts on my 2014 Dodge Caravan and all in it took me about 3 hours. Van has 102K miles and the right front strut was blown, it was covered in oil. I ordered 'quick strut' replacements from Rock Auto (big online US auto parts seller) for $89 USD each.

If it wasn't for starting out with scooter and then motorcycle maintenance I wouldn't have the courage or skill to attempt this. Oil changes, coolant changes, brake fluid changes, then carb rebuilds, new brakes, caliper rebuilds, brake and clutch master rebuilds, new brake lines, etc. All those jobs build the skill set and make you realize that other automotive work is really no more difficult.

Once the front end is up on jack stands and after removing the wipers and plastic front cowl cover you're ready to go. 3 nuts up top, 2 big bolts through the knuckle, 1 nut for the sway bar end link and one small bolt for the ABS sensor wire.  That's it. Without an impact it would be very challenging..but with an impact it was an easy job.

So thank you, scooter maintenance!

haha, thank you, sir! I also have rear shocks, rotors and pads for the van...but I need a little break between jobs. Struts went so easy that I fear the rear end will give me trouble. (the van's rear end...)
