Y.S.'s Street Fair ....and a jerk (arrested!)
« on: June 24, 2025, 12:12:48 AM »
Great day at the very popular semi-annual Street Fair in Yellow Springs, OH. Rain held off until mid afternoon.
Media always estimates the crowds at 20K>30K.
Attendees are shuttled in on school busses from large off-site parking lots..

If you know the village and arrive an hour before the 9:00AM start time you can find parking 2 blocks from downtown.
This we did - and thus scored the primo alfresco side-walk table for breakfast from the UnderDog (aka the Emporium) and Dino's. Daughter had an iced caramelotto, me - a Shot-In-The-Dark from Dino's. The Mrs a Highlander Grog from the dog.
The 1.5 lb breakfast burritos from the Dog  are local favorites. All locally sourced ingredients. One feeds two. Muffins are mulch, twigs, bark and berries, apparently. You need Dino's to wash 'em down. The ladies like them....

Dino (blue shirt) does a bang-up job selling coffee, coffee drinks, hot dogs and sausages sourced from unnamed animals.
He sounds like he's barking for the Yak Lady - one can hear him up by the hotel! :)

First saw this Police tower last summer - monitoring the Springfield City bldg after threats from the Proud Boys and the KKK.
Rt. 68 is blocked off for the day.
And lunch just has to include the famous veggie nachos from Current Cuisine - straight across from my Group W. Two feeds four.

It was a great day - the family has enjoyed this street fiar for years. The ladies buy stuff. I find various places to sit with a coffee and people watch.

Sadly - the next day I was to read that 4 businesses in Yellow Springs had been broken into later that night.
Three shops here in the King's Yard, along this brick path, were broken into. Import and pottery shops, etc. Nothing of any great value - all reported that there was no $$ left on the premises. Then, they crossed Rt 68 and smashed out the back glass door of the village's best little pizza shop. Lady there said they took her locked cash register, which contained only change.

The shops are down the path behind my scooter....
Just my thought - but the carriage of this individual seems "female" to me.

Shame when nice events like this have to be soured by some ne'er do well!  Let's hope the long arm of the law is able to reach out and feel the appropriate collar?

Re: Y.S.'s Street Fair ....update - thief arrested

Yesterday police made an arrest in the string of break-ins in Yellow Springs which occurred the night of the street fair.
New info suggests that on the same night the thief committed similar crimes in a nearby town.

Resources made available are improved, perhaps, because the governor of the state of Ohio has ties with this area :)

We have a much smaller event. Hay Day,  in our much smaller town, one of the big attractions is the "bed race"  where teams push highly modified beds for a couple blocks
