My AK 550 starts without it. I changed the lock but it keeps doing the same thing. Can someone help me?
Which direction are you turning the keyless knob to turn off the bike. It really does matter.
Turning the knob to the RIGHT OFF position doesn't really turn the bike off. That only turns off the lights and the engine. A safety feature to allow you to also open the gas cap and fill the tank. It is a bad dangerous thing to try to fill the tank with the engine running as I've known some riders to do on other bikes. The AK prevents that danger.
Turning the knob to the LEFT OFF position, or beyond to lock the handlebars, is the only position that actually turns off the bike. You should need the keyless fob to turn the bike back on if you had turned the knob to the left.
Also, keep in mind that the fob does not need to be all that close to the AK for the bike to "see" it. I tested this at a dealer before I bought mine. The fob can be 3 ft or less from the side or rear and the bike will still start from true off. BUT, and this is a biggie, the fob can be up to 45 ft in front of the bike and the AK will still "see" the fob and start. I had read about this issue on the ADV Riders forum before I even found one to look at. I sat on the bike and had the dealer/owner carry the fob and we tested distances until the bike stopped recognizing the fob. I counted the 1 ft square tiles on the floor and the distance was actually about 47 ft. At 48 ft the fob was finally too far away.
