Ruffus, "touch" parking in Italy?
« on: May 06, 2025, 06:01:10 PM »
Ruffus, if the cars and scooters on Italian streets park as close as they do on the streets in Paris - how does one get your car out if 2 scooters have come along and taken your inches in the front and your inches in the rear??!

Is it OK, to move the scooters, or what?? do riders come back and find their scooter tipped over?

City parking is much on my mind lately....
(I was in a vacation island on the east coast recently and the parking was impossible! Six condos on the seashore were allotted 5 parking spaces and one in the dune!! ..and heaven help you if one of your neighbors received a visitor while you were out to eat, or shop, or sight-see and had dared to leave your parking spot!!!

One afternoon wife & daughter paid at the machine for one hour's parking in a lot while I sat with the dog in the car - there was no alternative. I asked how much was it - they said "don't ask!" That evening my daughter confessed - it was $38 for one hour. )

Stig

some fun....

Stig yes,
when scoots are parked that close, noone would be bothered if you push the scoot aside, put it on the stand and shove it back where it was.
Its done before you get into your car.

Tipped over motorcycles are very seldom, coz' of lots of moto-dedicated slots.
Usually here in Italia you don't park with a motorcycle where cars are and vice versa.
Parking your scoot on the sidewalk for a short shopping or coffee is accepted.

Wooow, $ 38,- an hour is steep. Here the most you pay is at tourist sights and about € 3 to 5,- /h.
In cities like Trieste or Milano is the fare € 0,50 to 2,50/h.
Airport longtime is €10,- per/day.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

I used to love to park my scooter on the sidewalks in Rome, wherever there is space. It just works in the city...lol

Recently copped a ticket for pavement parking* my DTX360 here in the UK!  Currently disputing it, but I reckon in the end I'll have to pay.  First time in 50+ years though, so I reckon it's paid for itself!

(* Alongside an area designated for cycle parking)

My appeal submission:  I have parked here for a maximum of 15 minutes on each occasion on a regular basis for years without issue. The area is set aside for bicycle parking (the taxation class of my vehicle) and my parking here does not inconvenience any cyclist or take up a space which can otherwise be used by a car. Car drivers often get irate by my vehicle taking up an entire car parking space! There is no signage specifically excluding use of this area for parking of 2 wheelers. I would also point out that nowhere on this car park is there any other dedicated 2 wheeled parking. In the circumstances, I would respectfully request that the charge be withdrawn on this occasion please as it is outwith the spirit of the contractual parking arrangements on this land.

Neil, such a charge would be seen here in Italia as ridicolous and NO italian Carabinieri, Poliziotto Locale or Polizia Stradale would bother in this case. They would be laughed at.
If you noone endanger, why pointing a finger?

I have handicap plates for my Frontier, and a placard I can hang from a mirror, working on getting a plate for my AK550, or a way to secure my placard

Problem here Ruffus is on private land, which this shopping mall is on, owners can hand off parking enforcement to private parking companies and they're only in it for the money!  Back in the day when it was down to official parking wardens (aka The Beatles' Lovely Rita, Meter Maid) you'd never have got a ticket.  If life wasn't too short I'd make as stand & fight it through the Courts, but as it is, I'll smile and pay the £60 through gritted teeth.
