NSR, MotoGuzzi V65 Lario 4valve, new patient..
« on: March 30, 2025, 08:56:35 PM »
Since my MG Nevada 750 is completed and  my wife is sincerely convinced that, man need to be busied, a new project was granted to me.

An abused MotoGuzzi V65 Lario 4 valve found its way into my shop and has to be converted in a Cafe Racer with a vintage touch. See first pics. Will update once in a while.

Next steps were done:
-motor out, glass pearl blasted
-primered and coated
-in again
-valves adjusted, 4V easy as 2V (before painting)
-pointers and capaciters renewed
-ignition done
fresh brainstorming because I looked up my archives and found a beautiful rear chromed/inox fender, which made me think over the cafe racer version to another, we'll see...

You must have your own blasting cabinet? I’m jealous! Motor looks like new.

Wanted a Kymco, ended up w a Lance, but that forum is inactive, so I am here

Motor looks like new.

It truly is a peach!  Makes me kinda wish I got that Le Mans all those years ago when I took the Triumph route.

@Iahawk, not own blasting cabin, but a friend with an industrial size walk in blaster which I can use.

@Neil, yes the LeMans would be an option too, with the stronger engine and Lafranconis, there are still some around. I checked one some time ago, that one must have been in saltwater or close by, eaten up most of it. Hole corrosion on engine and frame.

I had the V65C 2 valve.  Stone dead reliable. Any speed, all day long. Nigasil cylinder coating never wears. There were issues with the 4 valve Larios, tho they made more power.  You should research that as I don't recall much.

..some progress,
abandoned the idea of straight carbs outside, would harm riders knees and touch side panels.

Wanted to have the old Carabinieri mono seat, so I had to change the panels to home made.
The change from mechanical regulator/diodebox to electronic regulator/ rectifier was more challenging for the wire loom had to be redone and stowed away in Larios innert.

Also new rear light and indicators which demanded new cablage...

@wymple
Yes, this 4 valve motors are notorious for their broken  valve shafts, which causes a serious (writeoff) engine hit.
But this is the beauty in this game with oldtimers.
