CELP codes
« on: October 22, 2023, 07:43:45 PM »
Does anyone know what code 66 represents? I ran the self diagnostics on the bike and it kicked out a '66'....I can't find that anywhere in my repair manual.

You can download the entire Service repair manual here: https://kymco.at/pub/media/Download/Kymco/NEWDowntown350iABS.pdf

Code 66 refers to the Crankshaft Position Sensor, which is located on the right side of the engine, just where the wires insert into the round crankcase cover on the top. If this is faulty then the bike won't be able to start most or all of the time.

OK Guys, it's educate Neil time.  I think I know what you're referring to when you're talking about CELP Codes here, but what does CELP stand for?  I even went to the trouble of googling motorcycling acronyms, but the so called comprehensive list, wasn't!:

All the Motorcycling Acronyms — A Comprehensive Glossary
By Dana Hooshmand

As I go deeper down the motorcycling rabbit hole, I still see motorcycle technology acronyms that people seem to assume everyone knows. But they don’t! I didn’t.

Aside from brand-specific terms (looking at you Kawasaki — why does every bit of awesome tech get its own narrowly-defined acronym?), there are many acronyms that apply to all motorcycles.

Manufacturers keep adding their own as well. A few manufacturers (like Aprilia, Ducati, and Kawasaki) seem to love them in particular. I won’t put the manufacturer-specific ones here, and will keep them for another article.

And technology progresses. As active cruise control has become a thing, so have the associated acronyms!

Here’s a list of all the motorcycle acronyms I have had to learn on my journey. I hope they’re useful to you.
Are you obsessed with motorcycles?

Well, I am. That’s why I created this site — as an outlet. I love learning and sharing what others might find useful. If you like what you read here, and you’re a fraction as obsessed as I am, you might like to know when I’ve published more. (Check the latest for an idea of what you’ll see.)

OK Guys, stand at ease.  I've found it after a bit more searching:

Cortesia de/ Courtesy of: www.batmotos.com
FUEL SYSTEM (Auto Control Fuel Injection System)

CHECK ENGINE LAMP (CELP)
When turning on the switch, the lamp will
be lighted for 2 seconds then off. Let user
to know the lamp is available and connect
to ECU.

Something I'd always thought of as the Engine Management Warning Light (EMWL?)  Must update my terminology.

If that is the case then why is mine starting and running without any problems? Are we saying eventually something with the crank is going to happen, go bad? I am under the impression that if a CPS (crank position sensor) goes bad it wont start but mine is doing fine...Hmmmm!

Any code which shows up either in "blinks" or on an diagtool in a combination of letters and figures indicates a certain "module" or area where a malfunction has happened (past tense).

Does not say directly with 100% accuracy "this sensor is worn out, change it".
Gives you only a hint where to start your search.

So if code/ blink appears, could be a piece of metal pinched, a cable intermittingly shorting, a connector to this CPS rotten.
If your CPS definitely is done, NO START at all.
