Cool out here on Washington's NW coast, 49 F, but ran errands on the scooter and not bad. If the next round of snow holds off till later in the year, it doesn't stay long.
No Cardinals out here, they are a so pretty, and not many urban squirrels.

Wow!
Ring neck Pheasants!!
They used to be all over Ohio! Roll your windows down and drive through the countryside and you could hear them squawking in the fields  - sometimes they'd shoot across the road like jets at wind-shield level when changing farm fields!

I have not seen nor heard one around here in decades! I've wondered if they died off during a hard winter. Maybe the blizzard of 78'?
My Dad was a hunter - we ate more than a few as kids.
In France one time my Dad took me with him to a lodge for Pheasant hunters. A group lined up at one end of the field while a couple of dogs and an old French guy, the "driver/beater" walked towards the men with shotguns, blowing his horn, dogs barking. When he was too close to the guns he blew a signal and one could only shoot "To the rear" -- after the Pheasants passed behind you. My Dad took us home after one day. He said it was not a sport done this way. He preferred walking with his dog and finding a bird every so often.
Thanks for the photo!

Seems the French approach to pheasant shooting is exactly the same as here.  I'm 100% with your Dad on that!  I was offered a brace recently and politely declined.
