NSR: yeah it's a snow storm...but the Cardinals are really cool
« on: February 03, 2022, 10:52:13 PM »
Hard to count them - but pretty certain I counted 8 pairs of Cardinals out the kitchen window.
My wife always maintains a couple of bird feeders when the ground is covered, and somedays a warm bath (not kidding)

There are three grey squirrels and one black squirrel - they all get along OK.
Every now and then I'll go out and run off a hawk looking down at them, checking his menu.... (yeah - but they can eat somewhere else - like the 10000's of crows at the library)

We just finished 12 hours of freezing rain, now it's snowing on top of it (why I went riding in the dark & the rain early yesterday)

Check amazon - $18.99 "Make a Cardinal Kit" comes with 6 ducklings and 1 Qt. Flaming Red Bird Dip.
Also makes really neat cats.

Stig
"Thay Will Come" bird feed is 90% sunflower seeds - Cardinals love the stuff.

yes, native here, and beautiful birds! I always see Cardinals as a pair. I always see a male and a female together.

Yep, always in pairs, like the mallard ducks that I see at the reservoir. Pairs.
If you look, the mate is always nearby.
We have had birdfeeders out back for decades....buy the seed in 50lb bags...so birds 🐦 remember where to come.

25 years ago, I took my first trip east to Kentucky. That was the first time I ever saw a Cardinal. I was in my 30s, and felt like a kid. I had only seen them on a baseball uniform and a football helmet prior to that. I know, I'm a dork, but it was something new for this city boy.
