       I need to make a decision. My '23 People S 150i came with a very tall windscreen When I ride it's like looking through a window. I've put about 1000 miles on the scooter and am really enjoying it. I've been watching lots and lots of You Tube videos about scooter windscreens. The thing I'm concerned about is rain. I haven't been caught in any rain yet, but at some point, I will. There is no way I can see over or around my windscreen if it was raining very hard. This could present a serious problem. The videos suggest the top of the windscreen should be several inches below your sight line. This way you could see over a rain covered windscreen if necessary. There are also many videos showing how to cut down your windscreen to a recommended height. It looks like a DIY project I could handle, and I have all the necessary tools to accomplish it. What are your thoughts on this question? Should I do it?

Hi Mike,  if you're confident and no plans to sell the scooter on - where a modified screen could be a haggling point - then go for it.  I take it you've considered and discounted an aftermarket sports screen?

heck, if you do a good enough job, no one will ever even know you cut down your wind screen! (I agree with you on not wanting to look through a wind screen...for numerous reasons)

I have wondered why so many Europeans ride big wheeled scooters behind very tall windscreens?
They are often standard equipment on the new scooters.
They are commuting - often with this as their primary source of transportation.....yet....?

Didn't think rain and screens were that much of a problem in the USA - where few riders go out if any chance of rain (or dark, for that matter!

Of course there are instances of a cut screen now causing major head buffeting after the trim.

Stig, a typical Vespa 50 windscreen, today, will cost you $ 324.95 Tax Excluded.  Add tax and shipping, and it'll be over $400, and it's still in the cardboard box.  Now you have to debox and assemble the thing, and if your dealer does it, you're at $500 without even breathing hard.   All that aside, there's no  accessory Kymco windshields with pre-made brackets like on a Vespa. Vespas have special fittings for Vespa windshields. Now for the Kymco, you're spending cash to have custom brackets fabricated unless you have the tools (see above) to fabricate your own.

$125 for a Faco screen. Malossi a bit less.
$209 for a OEM Piaggio screen.
Including all hardware to fit the Liberty. Takes maybe 1/2 hr to install - depending on smoke breaks.

Bought a couple very nice screens for my Burgman from these folks a few yrs ago. ERMAX is French made - nice quality! Seller is in the USA.
Easy transaction.

             COMPLETE SUCCESS!

  I successfully cut my stock screen down 5". Super happy with the results. I'm 5' 10" and the wind hits at the top of my helmet and buffering is minimal. According to the Kymco speedometer, I even picked up about 3 mph on the top end (66 MPH). I'll verify my top speed with my GPS on my next ride. Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions.
