A warmer helmet?

With the temps down into the 40's and 50's the next two nights - decided to install the optional neck pad in my new Nolan.
I can tell that it should also make things a bit quieter. (even with my customary ear plugs - always worn)

and maybe I can ride with a lighter scarf? It certainly hugs the neck - and softly!


Gets seriously cold I'll be installing the under-chin pad, too.

Looks warm. My helmet doesn't have that feature available. I'm sure I can get aftermarket to attach to the helmet but I'll continue to use what I have been using for the last 15 years...
I have a Turtle Fur soft neck gator that start wearing when the temps get down to around 40*F. That serves me very well in cold temps all the way below zero*F down to -15*F. It fills in the space at my chin and also bunches up around the base of the helmet. I wear it down over the collar of my riding jacket. With the thermal liners in my jacket and riding over pants I am toasty in those cold temps. Only bother is the hands that always seem to be out in the coldest wind stream. So I use heated gloves for that issue and those are also good and well tested to that lowest temp.

In the 60's in Massachusetts winters I wore rubberized rain over-pants over my dress clothes when working at the hospital.
Now, I wear FroggTogg rain over-pants over armored jeans. Not perfect - but that extra layer keeps me noticeably warmer. Not expensive.

Colder times are coming our way too. I have been looking for some pants that would fit over ones that I am wearing to keep my legs warm while riding in the winter.

I have the Tour Master Venture Air 2.0 over pants. They have 2 removable liners. With all liners out they are excellent mesh over pants with armor that I must have while riding. The first liner is a rain/wind liner and does really well just keeping the breeze off my legs when the air is just cool. The second liner is a thermal liner. You can use either liner alone or both liners together. With both liners installed I can ride down well below zero*F (well below -18*C) with jeans and thermal long johns on under that. If I really need a little extra I have been known to add the Frogg Toggs Road Toad pants over everything and that adds significant warmth to the entire setup. I figure a little bit of bulk that results is a non-issue since I don't really use my legs for much when riding a scooter. There is no restriction when I need to put my foot down at a stop. And when I come to a stop and my foot touches down it doesn't move from that spot since I don't take my feet off the foot boards until I am almost totally stopped, and even then my foot is usually suspended out and ready until I am completely stopped and then it sets down. No walking shuffle here like Noob Harley riders tend to do.

I understand that even Kansas can get rather cold sometimes.
I would love to move south. One of my sons and his wife/daughter live in Lafayette. But my other son and wife with their 3 kids live in Iowa 35 minutes away. Just near enough so it is not likely moving to warmer weather is in the cards for us.

RJS That's a understatement , Kansas  can get bitter cold of a Winter with wind.  Those Siberian fronts come down from Canada and follow the Rockies down the high  plains. 

I seriously thought about when I retired just having a place in Georgia and one in Minnesota .  Since my house is paid for and my new building's it didn't make a lot of sense to move.  I have family in South Georgia so I can always visit in January  and take the RV and a scooter.  That was also knew of the reasons I had built a 12'x12' mechanic shop to work on scooter project's during the cold months. It's equipped with heat/AC and will put in a motorcycle lift.

Television sucks anymore and I find myself watching old reruns out of boredom of a Winter.  That is one of the reason's  I purchase scooters and fix them up when it's to cold/hot to ride.  50F*is my low temperature cut off and 90F* for high temperature .

I just bought a new insulayed rainsuit by HWK brand on amazon, going to try using it this winter to try and keep my legs warm.
