I bought a new generic starter on ebay for $39 for my "just in case" parts bin. The starter relay can be bought for less than $20 on ebay, generic but a perfect fit and, so far, is working fine. I have seen an increase in prices over the last year but...grab while the grabbing is possible is my motto.
Hi Stuo! Thanks for your reply! Were you having the same issue?

Have read several times of a part overheating to cause no re-starts until it cools.
C'mon you guys.....which part is it?!
My memory failing me here....

Stig

Right! I know in my frantic googling, I’ve seen accounts of this! I also remember seeing someone say they sprayed something with compressed air or some kind of cold air in a can 🤣🙈 and would carry it with them for this exact reason. But, I cannot remembered WHAT part they sprayed and what exactly they sprayed it WITH. 😑

@Jenni1969,
this cold air spraying sounds a little bit homeopathic to me. Just believe in it and it works. But motors usually don't react on that.
Serious methodic testing leads in most cases to success.
Once again: start on your motor comp. (met-in out)
-check your batt cables
-all other cables too
-ground points fixed?
-sparkplug and cable out and testing with multimeter
-ignition coil/ cables to it
-flood your switches with some WD40 or sim.
-unplug/plug all connectors in your motor comp.
- pull/twist all cables, check for frailed spots
- front panel off, all relais out and sprayed
-bridge your starter motor for running
-check battery tension when motor runs 14+Volts
-all fuses out and check or new
-starter motor out and professional testing
Further from here you need some experience to test your generator.
Tell us what happens.

Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

Hi guys!

So I just wanted to touch base to let y’all know that I haven’t been able to do any work on my scoot because I was in an accident and wrecked my car. 😢 once I get my whole car situation sighted out, I will get back to focusing on the scoot!
I just didn’t want you all to think I got some advice and took off!

Like Ruffus & KK I hope it was car damage only Jenni and that you're OK, damaged metal and plastic is much easier (if expensive) to fix than busted up humans!
Regards & ride safe,

Please have a good recovery from your car wreck! So sorry to hear...

The starter relay is not only the cheapest part but also the easiest to access and exchange. You have to remove the met box, then you will find the relay on the right side of the tubular frame. One of the wires is red and thick which tells you it is the relay. (The starter requires a lot of current , hence the thick red wire). Before you order the relay make sure it looks exactly like yours, don't take the word of the ad, scrutinize the picture. The plug-in connector must be the same. Disconnect the battery first. Good luck. I haven't needed a starter yet, so can't advise...

Ruffus, KK, Neil, Stig, Crossbolt

Thank you so much for the well wishes!!! And again, for all the advice!

My car was a total loss. That’s ok, ‘cause I’m ok. No one else was involved. It was a freak thing. Anyway, my Honda was nearly 20 years old, had nearly 300,000 miles on it…70,000 I put on in less than two years; she owed me NOTHING. I’m looking for another car now and will get back to the scoot when I’m settled.

Stuo,

Thank you again. Once I get situated with a car, I’ll start figuring out replacing the starter relay.

Ill be back y’all!! ??????
