Ignition key
« on: August 17, 2020, 05:12:24 AM »
I have only one ignition key, and 1 security key. I need a spare on the ignition key, but searching for a blank on ebay & everywhere else, I do not see any listed specifically for a 2010 500 Xciting. Any links or help in locating the right blank. There are lefts & rights on top of it all?

Match ebay photos with your key.
Just look closely at their photos....and your key...it's not hard to come up with correct Kymco key blanks from China and they're certainly not expensive if you get the side wrong. If you study your key closely.....and photos -- you won't.

Stig is spot on, bought several on ebay. The security key is a different matter,  $65 from a dealer.

Is the 'security key' a key to unlock a flap over the key slot....done by magnets?
Burgman keys are such....found the on ebay (China ) for very little $.
There's a simple procedure to get the magnets to match the stock key.

Learned something new.  The recently purchased  Orange Kymo is missing the security key.  Without the information don't know if I could get a security key.

I would think the easiest way would be to go to a Kymco dealer and order a blank and the switch lock cover

I'm betting a dealer would stick me a lot worse than 7 bucks?

Do you have a left or right hand key? Do you know the difference? Which one did you order on line?

I found the security key arrangement to be a right royal PITA. Keeping it in a condition so it worked reliably even with the correct mag key seems difficult in our climate so I bit the bullet, had the mechanism to bits and removed the little flap as it was always getting stuck in the closed position. It always seemed to happen when I was miles away from anywhere and getting into the lock involved scraping at the flap until I could move it enough to get the key in, which damaged it anyway.

Whilst it may prevent a bit of water ingress into the lock mechanism I’m not convinced it was particularly effective a security measure or was watertight and a healthy dose of Wurth on a regular basis seems to be more far more preferable than getting locked out of my scoot.

Frankly speaking, I think it’s more of a gimmick than a genuine security measure (there are better ways of preventing the theft of a scoot imho) and in my case ended up being a bloody liability on several occasions.

You may find that your climate suits its operation ok but for me, if it was a toss up of either being regularly locked out of my scoot or the unlikely event of ineffectively preventing unskilled petty crims from nicking it. I’ll risk the latter any day.

Hope you manage to get it to work.

My security key works fine, but I don't use it anyway. It doesn't look like it would deter a thief much. I thought it might keep water out, but WD40 is cheap enough.

I have never used the security key as well. My last Orange Kymco  purchase did not have one with the scooter.
