Do you ride in flip-flops?

Even just to run a quick local errand?

I think that even before your hands hit the pavement during in a slow speed "off", you'll try putting down your feet.
Imagine doing that in flip-flops or sandals.

Absolutely not, in fact for friends and family are allowed to ride any of my Scooters it is understood they need to wear leather footware, long pants, gloves and a helmet.  I know what can happen even at low speed if you hit a patch of unexpected gravel or sand in a cornor.

I have a supply of helmets in different sizes along with gloves and jackets in different sizes for guests. 

I see a lot of people wear flip flops, shorts, no helmet or gloves  on scooters though, just not mine.

Just read of a Vespa flip-flop rider who might be losing his foot. He was sifting through stopped traffic in 'Frisco on a quick little local run, when a guy opened his door as the Vespa was passing...
The door edge went neatly between the toes of his right foot.....like a hatchet.

have never even entertained the thought of riding in flip flops! Feet and ankles are important, I don't want to live without them!

I’d ride barefooted before I’d ride in flip flops. At least then I wouldn’t have to distract myself with keeping them from falling off. And I’d never ride barefooted. I wouldn’t even ride a BICYCLE in flip flops.

I’m speaking pre-amputation. Post amputation, I’d have to Velcro it to my prosthetic foot to even keep it on. But I have a question. Would that be the flip side or the flop side?[emoji23][emoji23]

I put boots on even to move bike about in garage. You probably will not die from foot injury, but they still hurt.   Asia rides in sandals, though.

A lot of people in the south European countries, including me, usually have a helmet and kidney belt in the summer time. Everything else is optional.

They take their whole family on one scooter as well. I've seen pictures of scooters loaded with a pickup load of stuff tied on.

I wear fully closed shoes with type varying by the job I'm commuting to. Flops would just feel wrong, like wearing a speedo on a road bike.

I'm sure we've all got a story about people taking chances with no protective gear.

A few years ago, a lassie from around these parts was on some sort of career break/gap year in Asia. She stayed well past her travel insurance expiry - I guess she enjoyed it there.

Anyway, she was riding side saddle on the pillion of a scooter though one of their sweaty cities. No protective gear whatsoever. Long flowing skirt gets caught in the read wheel of the scoot and in an instant it gets wound up, dragging her off the bike and head first into the tarmac. She lived (just) and she's back home now, but only after the kindness of many people that helped pay her medical bills / flights home etc.
