2020 riding season
« on: April 02, 2020, 02:44:41 PM »
Looks like this Virus thing will slow down my riding season (mine is 12 months long)--right now thinking about going to ME to see the start of the Scooter Cannonball start----problem for me I have to go thru PA/NY and their bad/poor condition roads.

Plan this year, more camping in North, South too hot----stay away from India run motels as best I can....last one, Motel 6, I stayed in a couple of weeks ago had lots of bugs!

If do camping, do not like high mileage days---which I do not need anyway.   This year, no new bike....2019 only has 10,000 miles and still a year of warranty---wife spends too much money.

Scooter business already dead in US---Virus not doing much for it.  Only plan for my XTown 300i this year, new tires---thinking about Continental instead of Michelin Power Pure SC (good experience with them in past).

Unfortunately my riding season here in VT is shorter than yours so this virus could really impact it.  Looks very realistic that here in VT we could be under stay at home orders until at least May possibly longer.

With this virus, the Cannonball looks iffy although it has not been formally canceled yet.  I am registered but have canceled all my hotel reservations and can always re-book if things go well.  My concern is that going thru 14 states plus Canada, there may be areas that are under some sort of lockdown plus getting adequate food along the way, especially in smaller towns.

John, why are you considering changing from Power Pure to Continental?
Love Continental bicycle tires, but the Conti Scoot rear tire I have--currently w 3600 miles--looks to barely get 5000.
Nice ride, but hoped for more mileage.  Original Duro got 6000.  Plan on trying a Power Pure next.
2014 BV 350  "IndiGO" (fast, strong and tireless)
2006 Honda Rebel 250  "Snow Leopard" (stealthy, agile and durable)
2018 Lance Cali Classic 200i  "Black Panther" (smooth, nimble, quiet and quick)
2016 Wolf V-50 (sold)

Wanted a Kymco, ended up w a Lance, but that forum is inactive, so I am here

Good to know on Continental---Power Pure SC with new Burgman 400 on return from AK---got 11,000 miles from rear and it wore round, not hurting handling.  In the 1950's, in Germany, avoided Continenal as they were slippery in rain.

On Scooter Cannonball----never worry about food and sleeping places....unless you have not ridden to many places in the past----Recent years I have scooter or Suzuki 250 ridden to 49 states, never had problem eating or getting gas or sleeping.

We now have an official shelter-in-place order, not sure about the recreational aspects of it. We have some of the best twisties-riding in Georgia right here 7 miles from me.  So if they allow recreation in this lockdown, then I'm good. I have tons of  fast twisties and low speed single lane to play on very close by. If I do go out, I will not travel across county lines.

I am still hoping that later summer will pan out better, and that get togethers with social distancing will be allowed.  I wouldnt go on a cruise or visit Disney, but I'd lift a drink while sitting six feet from any of you guys!

Meet them this side of the northeast, John. Somewhere along the route what ever that is.

The shelter in place is pretty flexible considering people have to shop for necessities like food, fuel and whatever ammunition available. I intend to do as much as possible on two wheels. Soon. Like today. Gotta get flea stuff for back yard and chicken to cook for dogs. Reqires trips in opposite directions! Oh, woe is me! All that riding!

Normally I do not worry about that but this is not normal times so there may be issues.  Since I live in a relatively small city, I fully expect some of our restaurants, convenience stores and probably at least one gas station to go out of business, if this stay at home order continues into the summer.  I suspect that this would be the case in other areas of the country.

Remember City Grip not made in proper size front for XTown 300i.   Have City Grip on rear right now=nothing special and will not buy another.

City Grips.

Stig

I like City Grips but for 4 of the 5 scooters I have owned City Grips did not come in the correct size for both the front and rear.

My C70 (passport) is all ready to go in the garage, with nowhere to go :(

I don't know if you get them in the US but I quite like Anlas tyres - cheap but seem to wear well. Used to use them as my winter ones when I was couriering
