Exhaust Bushing
« on: January 26, 2020, 11:43:12 AM »
I have a 2012 DT 200 and removed the exhaust to remove the rear tire.  Found I also had to remove the plastic fender above the tire and the rear shock completely to get the tire off.  When I pulled the exhaust off, it like it was wrapped with graphite tape on the pipe from the engine.  Looking at the parts manual, it looks more like a bushing but maybe a graphite tube?  Is this the setup?  Should have taken a pic of it but didn't.  Here is a pic of a piece that came off.

With most modern maxi scooters this gasket (Japanese call it packing) is used between exhaust pipe and muffler.   Good idea to have one or 2 on hands---your dealer may not have one in stock.  I find Kymco parts price cheap---I always carry one on trips, in case wheel has to come off.

It's good to know all of this because I'm just about to replace the back tire on my downtown, and I've been looking at the process and dreading it

I have had my muffler off several times for rear tire replacement and do not recall any such packing, tape or anything at the slip joint. I gotta go look at that!

It can kinda weld itself on exhaust pipe.  I use new gaskets each time I remove muffler---insures good seal.

mine was flaky that is why I thought it was graphite tape.  I don't have a spare exhaust bushing but that is on the list of items to order for spares on my cannonball run
