700 dipstick location
« on: December 31, 2018, 05:28:16 PM »
Wishing you and your Family a Happy New Year full of good health and great fortune.

Absent almost any overview by the local dealership and the handbook that’s barely useful ... where is the dipstick located?

Cant believe your dealer didn't go over all that stuff when you bought it!  Dealer took mine in back and we went thru everything to demonstrate where everything was and how it worked. My dealer went overboard to make customers happy.  That is why I always order parts thru them whenever possible.

There isn't a dipstick, just a sight glass. It's under the driver's seat, you have to find the little cap to add oil and it's right under that.

And I was complaining about the weird location of the dipstick on the 450i.....at least it has one.  Wow...a site glass, that's gotta be hard to see on a dusty/dirty engine!   No wonder they were afraid to mention it in the manual.........

I can’t tell on my 450i dipstick where the oil level is. Wish there was some kinda additive to put in to give clean oil some color. I end up using a pipe cleaner to see where the oil level is.

Yep...had that same issue, worse part is it is a plastic dipstick which makes clean oil even harder to see!  I used a small wire brush to scuff and dull the surface of the dipstick, does make it easier to see, but still needs to be in proper lighting to see it good. I use full syn oil which is even clearer than dino oil.  Thought about lightly sandblasting the dipstick but didn't want to take the chance of not getting all the sand off, but the wire brush worked well.
