RAM Mount... but where to mount?
« on: July 21, 2016, 08:04:06 AM »
Where exactly can you mount a RAM mount on the DT?

There is no bar in the center, and the handle grip would make it impossible to grip onto... I can't find a logical place to put it without having to buy a center bar.

I am looking for a place to mount either a phone or a go-pro.

thanks

I think they drill and mount in center of handlebar plastic cover.
There's a post with pix here, recently, pretty sure.

See "GPS mount" in this section: Downtown 300.

I put my RAM mount right on the handlebar. It compressed the plastic a bit, but that was all. Makes for a non-slip surface that way, too.

I've tried putting a camera on my handle bar before.  Didn't it feel like it was taking up too much space, and your hand could only grip a small portion?  It felt unnatural and unstable, but I guess I just have really big hands.

And thanks for these pictures.. I think I will just use that type of setup.  Was this what you ordered?

thats the closest thing I could find to resemble what you have.

Sorry, meant to write"on the mirror stem" instead.

No problem, for the pictures. Just make sure that you get the phone/gps mount with the rubber webbing. It goes on each corner to make a real tight fit. You can also move that ubolt mount, into a position that isn't too close to your hands. It does seem a little close, but I didn't feel like drilling holes or modifying anything.Until I find something different, this works for now.

Doesn't this introduce more vibration on the mirror?

Not at all, I drive the pot hole filled highways of north Jersey and it hasn't moved or shifted yet. I check it before every ride, haven't noticed or seen any vibration.
