Throttle Problem with new A50! HELP!
« on: May 16, 2010, 07:35:49 PM »
My throttle when turned half way gets me going, but when i turn it completely, it just dies down and i can't maintain anything more than 18-20mph.  This is my second day riding it!

When i rode home on my brand new 2009 Agility 50 from the dealership, there was no problems with the throttle, and i was able to hit 35mph.

The dealership is not open until Tuesday, and i can't get enough speed to bring it home safely.  Help?

It sounds like the main jet may be clogged.

Your not suposed to full throttle it when its new.

Run the scooter slowly when its new and not so long trips. let it cool down once in a while.
for the first 1000 km dont full throttle it.

Heres a example :
0-150 km > max 1/3 throttle
150-500 km > max 1/2 throttle
500-1000 km > max 3/4 throttle

Also dont hold the throttle at the same position all the time, change the position a little once in awhile.
And let it cool down sometimes and dont do long trips.

After the first 1000 km you can full throttle it.
If you do this the motor will get a longer life i have read.

Also warm up the engine before you ride by letting it idle for 3 minuts if you start the engine from cold.

That is good advice on the break-in procedure.  I would still think it would run fine on full throttle.  I suspect that being new something has lodged itself in the main jet.  There may have been some left over material from manufacturing that has worked it's way to the carb?!  I would think a call to your dealer is in order.

Thanks, i have it in a friend's garage.  Thank god i didn't have to pay for towing service!

I will bring it back to the dealership on Tues when they open (what kind of place operates tues-sat?)

I really hope its as simple as a clogged jet.  And hopefully they don't charge me for this.

after the frist 200 to 400 miles it would be good to do the frist oil change.

I've only got about 60miles on the thing.  I'm so bummed out too because i LOVED every minute of riding it.  Except when the problem started happening, then it was just embarrassing.

If you don't want to wait till Tuesday.  It's fairly easy to pull the carb bowl off and check/clean the main jet.  I think Wordslinger has some pics of it posted up somewhere on here.

I already feel like i'm intruding by having my bike in his garage, so i don't want to bother him anymore.  He lives in the city and i'm in Brooklyn, which is a bridge away.  Can't cross that bridge going 18mph... so yea, basically can't really bring it home to work on it.   I'll have to just suck it up and wait til tuesday.

you know if its not the main jet

it could be the valve adjustment when my valves got off adjustment that was one of the symptoms but in any case you just bought it you should have to pay for any work on it

(what kind of place operates tues-sat?)

..most cycle shops in this area are closed on monday's also...

..I agree that it's probably jst some left-overs that have either clogged the jet, or not allowing the slider to move up completely...

...as far as breaking the scoot in..ppl have different opinions on the process...

..I have ridden my scoot wide-th'-f*ck-open since day one....

..currently over 47,000 km on a '08 i rode out the dealer's door...

..good luck, post back and Welcome to th' Forum!

Dark13,  thanks for advice, are you saying i SHOULD, or SHOULDN'T pay for work on it?  (confused)

Wordslinger, Thanks, there is so much good info on this forum!  Admittedly i have been riding my a50 pretty hard the minute i got it out the door.

BTW, what brand/type of engine and gear oil do you guys recommend?  I just picked up some Maxum4 Blend Oil 10w40 for motor, and Gear Saver Hypoid Gear Oil 90w.

Here's my A50 when it was still on showroom floor next to an A125.

...looks just like mine when it was new...nice and shiny and blue....

..go ahead and change your oil...run a petroleum based oil for a cpl thousand kms...then i'd switch to a synthetic blend for a thousand km or so then go to full synthetic....

..and good 80-90 wt gear oil should do y'...

..any repair work should be covered under your warranty right now....
