 I figured I had a slight head gasket leak,  but it never caused a real issue.  The ninety degree temps we've been getting brought out the issues.  A few short periods of overheating did it in.  Saw the light pop on,  got to the safest stopping point,  check my coolant,  almost none.  Added some water after a few minutes to hold me over.  Went to start it. Nothing.  Checked my plug,  wet,  but not fuel.  Looked into the plug hole,  pushed down the kick start,  SPLASH!!  Face full of coolant.  Like a damned geyser! 
Time tear it down to make sure that is it...

Check your deck, and head for square. B&L went thru hell getting his right after a blown head gasket, and all it needed was to have everything trued up.

She was running non ethanol premium and bel-ray synthetic,  so the $4.88 flowers from Walmart aren't going to cut it.  The bitch had expensive tastes.

I'll definitely be paying close attention to how square it looks.  That may be what happened,  why it's dumping water into the cylinder

I can't believe how clean this all still looks!  I expected worse.  All I really did was wipe it down with a towel.  The gasket had a black finish on it when I put it in,  so that's clearly toast. 
This is after approximately 2500 mikes on the top end. I can thank Zombie for the advice on the BBK prep.

To the untrained eye,  the head doesn't look warped.  If it is,  I'm buying a whole new kit,  something more expensive.

So,  my pipe was FULL of coolant.  Figured some,  but not full.  Can I assume that my crank case has been subjected to the same?  Unless the rings stopped the majority...

You can dry the case w/ carb cleaner, and paper towels. No need to split them or take the engine out.

Something else that will help on the new kit is to use Loktite 510 anaerobic sealer. Smear a thin coat on both sides of the gasket, and it will prevent these kinds of "blow-outs".

The piston, and head look great. Too bad the gasket failed.

Sounds like a plan!  I pulled the reed cage,  jammed a hose past the crank and it didn't seem to be holding water.  But I'm getting a base gasket with the head gasket,  so I'll just go ahead and go in that way with your said method. 
I'll also try to find that loktite.

I found a hell of a deal for a malossi bbk.  I'm seriously trying to talk myself out of buying it since I'm needing to save money for my hopefully soon buying of a house.  But it's only $170! Same place has the malossi Variator with springs and such for $50! I really wish I wouldn't have found that...

You can stay under the bridge for another week. It won't rain much.

For those prices I wouldn't pass it up. I've run my Malossi var in two bikes for the past 7 years, and my jug kit lasted five years, and several hand made pistons. Actually I still have the jug, and it can still be run.
I spent about an hour w/ a three stone hone to remove some scaring from a broken circlip, and made it a 47.5mm.

The point is that set will last you several years, and save you $$$'s in the long run.

Well,  got bad news on the home loan anyways.  Apparently paying of debt in the recent past is not looked at very well,  so my order will be in soon.  Screw a house.  I'll just keep renting this townhouse and make all my neighbors watch me under the carport,  ass hanging out,  super nine pieces scattered about,  coolant every damned where,  and then get to continue to hear me roar in every few mornings at 730 from Work,  spinning 9k rpms.  They haven't complained yet. To me at least. 
And I'm kinda stoked about the chance to say "malossi bbk,  clutch,  Variator,  springs, " blah blah blah.  Instead of the rag tag mess I've got now.

Sorry for the house lot tho. I never minded renting cause I always picked my landlords carefully. You know the bastard type... I always passed on them no matter how much I liked the place.

Have you looked at owner finance? There are a boat load of them around due to undervalued properties, and the banks failure to offer decent mortgages. Hell, just riding that scoot for a year will save you enough cash to make an impressive down payment. That's exactly what I did 2 years ago, and at the present rate I will be paid off in four more years. Imagine that.
I almost consider the house as paid off because I am so far ahead. (double payments every month) It's still cheaper than renting in my area, and I could not have done it if I didn't ride scooters for the past 6-7 years.
Rather than tires, brakes, tune ups, insurance, gas, ect... That's 4-5 hundred a month vs 20 bucks a month for the scoot.
There's your house payment!

Exactly my style of thinking!  I'll look into that.  There should be enough around my area,  but at the same time maybe not.  This area is booming right now...
