won't accelerate
« on: April 26, 2015, 06:59:40 PM »
Hi having a bit of an issue with my 2014 Kymco super 8, bought It new 5 days ago and have 280 miles on it I took the variator apart last night and put it back together the exact same way it came apart. But now it won't accelerate until I'm doing 5-10mph which can be dangerous in intersections and I'm screwed if I stop uphill any ideas what the problem might be?

Maybe you tightened the nut with the belt down by the spacer and the outer face is loose and didnt pull apart the driven pulley (rear pulley) to allow belt slack when tightening?

Watch specifically from 4 to 6 minute mark in this video. When he grips and pulls the pulley to separate it in order to loosen the belt.

But watch all of it afterwards.

PART 1 REMOVAL

PART 2 INSTALL

That belt has to be loose and high on the variator when tightening the nut or it gets pinched when tightening the nut and you will cause damage if the variator nut comes loose while riding.

Before doing repairs etc, see if you can find something on youtube to guide you and look at the comments as sometimes these youtubers are not correct in their procedures.

Maybe use 8 gm Dr Pulley Sliders and a 1500 RPM contra spring.

But as with the other post, I'm just guessing. But it good to get that variator on properly as a start.

The scooter really needs a full derestriction to get good performance.
