Air intake tube

Why doesn't kymco connect the air intake tube to the actual intake port? When I was doing my valve clearance last night, I noticed that these two parts could have been easily connected and would result in fresher & cooler air coming in as opposed to  where this intake port currently is (pointed down and next to a warm engine).

That´s a good one. I could send you a long list of easy to achieve improvements for the Like Model starting with "Why doesn´t Kymco..."

They simply handle the Like as a cashcow.

I tend to understand the Like as a more or less do it yourself scooter assembly kit.  ;)

I wondered whether the intake was supposed to be connected to something when I first serviced my Like 200i. What do folks recommend? Leave as is or connect to body panel?

I doubt it would make a lot of difference with the airflow at speed, but have you done this modification yet?...http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=8060.0

As counterpoint to the modding fans...
The stock Kymco routing of the air intake tip down inside the body panel, & alongside the warm engine, sure keeps my scoot sucking clean air! (and no rain)
The filter never seems to get dirty.
I know DIY'ers like to free-up air into -- and free-up the exhaust out of -- an engine.
Surely these theories are not unknown to the Kymco scooter engine builders ?
The LIKE200I, as constructed, seems to be performing , and surviving, quite well around the globe. Which is a testament to its   
simple, easy to service, and robust engineering.

I think that the air inlet ducts at the front of the cowl are for air cooling not supercharging.
