Hey you 450i owners....any updates to your machines?  Problems, upgrades, etc...long winter and cabin fever is setting in, would like to hear more from 450i owners...  I bought one the middle of January and love it so far. Due to the limited accessories I have been making some of my own such as my own windshield, plow mount (frame), added the winch, some rearview mirrors and coated the underside with some mud....having fun!!

Just joined the site, I have had the UXV 450i since aug 2014, My local Honda dealer became a rep, and I purchased the first  one. The little UXV that could.... I have since outfitted it with a Warn 3500 winch, LED Light bars,(which by the way, increase the battery size) they will flicker with the stock battery, When I bought mine, Kymco offered no accessories... I made a windshield from lexan and Aluminium angle. also installed an after market roof.. The bike has treated me well, I use it for hunting mostly... My Grandson drives the heck out of it. I also installed a plow setup from Cabelas this year. Pushed the snow around perfectly. The only issue with the UXV is the ground clearance, but the fix for that was increasing the the spring tension on the shocks. It made it ride higher, but i sacrificed the softer ride. Overall, its a keeper....

SuperHeliDave....welcome aboard, glad you like your 450i. New guy here as well, bought mine about a month back and so far so good. I did a lot of research before I decided and test drove a number of UTV's at least the dealers that allowed test drives and I felt the 450i had the best ride/quietness of all I tested. Even talked to the factory about problems with this model and there reply was almost negligible in complaints other than lack of accessories and the shifter complaint.  I also made my windshields from polycarbonate sheet, both a half and an upper for winter plowing which will come off when it warms up. My dealer ordered a quad boss plow kit which is a great plow but the universal mounting kit is a complete joke. As a toolmaker I made my own mount that attaches to my frame, just putting the finishing touches on it now. I just did the first oil change and differential gear oil change, switched to all synthetics thru out. Mine came with the factory roof, a little pricey but looks good. Still trying to find a factory service manual in case any future repairs may be needed, but not having much luck yet.
I am semi-retired and this is my retirement present to myself. My grandkids were not happy about me getting rid of my ATV's in favor of the UTV.....but now that they have had a chance to play with it....they are glad I made the switch, the UTV is so much more versatile and just plain fun. Please do keep us posted on how things progress with your 450i and I will do the same, this goes for any other 450i owners out there.

  Our machines are the same color, heck even have the same mud and dirt on the rear taillights!! LOL   Your top looks different, not sure if aftermarket or whether Kymco changed the tops, mine was a factory top with the "Kymco" name embossed in the plastic top.

Mine is aftermarket, they did not have any accessories when i bought it. I even had to make the winch mounts.. even with all that, that sxs still is amazing.

We've had ours since Oct 2014. We have 4200 miles on it with little to no trouble. We bought a soft surround by mammoth designs and it works great. You have to modify the back curtain just a little to fit the factory roof. Overall , it's a great little machine.

BUZZARD-
 How'd the test drive go with the 450? My family has been selling the Kymco brand for over 10 years now in a small town in Missouri, and we have nothing but great success with everything they make from the scooters, Atv's and especially the Utv's as of lately since they are becoming so popular. We also sell Arctic Cat which Kymco makes many vehicles for. When we have an arctic cat sitting next to a kymco thats the same vehicle but 2k cheaper. It's really a no brainer.
We were tired of having to wait for accessories though to come out for them which is why I started creating some accessories myself like the front and rear guards for the Kymco UXV 450i. Feel free to check them out at offroadbodyarmor.com

   If your family is selling the Kymco brand, how can we get our hands on a factory service manual for the 450i UTV. I am getting no response from "cyclepedia" so far, they do not list it in there site and have not responded to emails.  As a dealer do you have any suggestions?  Thanks

Airshot- unfortunately the service manuals are online and are confidential to dealers only for some reason. I couldn't tell you the reason behind it. If you are asking about an owners manual you should have gotten one when you bought the vehicle. A dealer should be able to replace it no problem if it got lost.

Factory service manual is what I am looking for, I have them for all the toys and equipment I own. Makes a repair so much easier and you know the correct parts #'s and procedures. I see a lot of Kymco owners are asking about windshields, how about making your own?  I did and the job looks great. Just order a sheet of polycarbonate plastic 1/4" thick. That is the stuff that does not break, easy to work with. I used a "roto-zip" cutting tool to cut mine and it went thru it like butter. Took the piece of plastic to a local sheet metal fab shop and they put a 45 degree bend along the top and bottom for rigidity then clamped it to the roll cage and traced the outline with a sharpie. Used the roto-zip to cut it out then sanded the edges with a power sander and purchased windshield clamps in stainless steel of E-bay. I also added a 3/4" aluminum angle across the windshield for added stability, because when your clicking along at 40 mph the wind makes it bow in. I looked at the factory windshields and they have a metal stiffener added as well. I made a half windshield to stay on all year and a removable top half for the cold winter. Looks great and works great....total cost right at 200 bucks.....a lot better than 400+

Can someone in the Kymco service world tell me why it is so freakin hard to shift my 450i, took it to the dealer and they say they lubed it, still a pain in the arse to shift. Has been since I bought it, and now the warranty is out..

   That is the only downfall I have ever found on this machine. I knew it before I purchased mine thru my research. I have talked directly with the SC factory rep and was told it is because they have spring loaded the shift forks to keep the gears from slipping. It was recommended to "lightly" tap the throttle while moving the shift lever back and forth and this normally allows the release of the shift fork. I have learned to do this almost second nature and has improved my shifting greatly. Do NOT hold the throttle down just a lite tap to slightly increase the rpm then back off, as the rpm drops down the shift fork releases. The service tech at there factory was quite nice and went into great detail about there engineering put into this machine to make it bullet proof.  I am still just waiting for the factory service manuals to come out. I have my order in but they are not completed yet as the publisher has just now received a machine to take apart to create the manual. Demand has been so high they have not had an extra one to send out. Good story ....hope its true!!
